Woman, 28, dies in Red Rock climbing accident

Friday, June 26, 2009 | 2 p.m.

A 28-year-old Las Vegas woman died Thursday after falling in the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area.

The Clark County Coroner's Office identified the woman as Margaret Plummer, a spokeswoman for the coroner said. She died from several blunt force trauma injuries and the cause of death was an accident, the coroner concluded.

A Bureau of Land Management ranger called in Metro Police's Las Vegas Search and Rescue team after the 1 p.m. Thursday accident at Red Spring, a popular hiking and rock climbing area, said Kirsten Cannon, a BLM spokeswoman.

The woman and her husband, Richard, were hiking along a high area where they had hiked many times before, and even rappelled down the rock face, police said. The woman appeared to have lost her footing and fell 120 feet, police said.
