economy:
Gibbons calls for report on high gas prices
Friday, June 26, 2009 | 9:39 a.m.
CARSON CITY – Gov. Jim Gibbons wants to know what, if anything, can be done about high gasoline prices, which could keep tourists away from Nevada during this summer season.
He has asked State Energy Chief Hatice Gecol to examine what the governor can do to soften the rising prices. And he wants a preliminary report in two weeks.
Fifty-seven percent of Las Vegas tourists come by car or bus. Traffic on Interstate 15 linking Las Vegas to California was up by 11 percent in April. But since then the price of gas has risen by 40 cents a gallon.
He said the statistics from AAA show the average price of gas was $2.75 a gallon compared to $3.02 in California and $2.67 in Arizona.
“With these rising fuel prices, tourists may be less likely to visit Nevada, making it more difficult for us to climb out of the economic crisis,” he said in a news release.

give me $2 million dollars and I will give you a report on high gas prices.. it might be brief maybe only 1 line but it will be true
You want to lower gas costs, get rid of the speculators artificially driving up the cost of oil. Demand is extremely low, yet oil prices are surging.
Let's see, no drilling, no coal, no nuclear fuel depost, no, no, no. I think I know why gas is going up. Wait until the Reid/Pelosi cap and trade plan goes through. The goal is to raise current energy costs to make GREEN energy more competitive.
Read today's artcile in the Wall Street Journal listing all the countries doing away with cap and trade and other rules on CO2 as the world finally doubts the gargage science that got us here.
PLEASE take the minute or two to read this article, it will shock you.

The LuvGuv behind the times yet again. When will his lack of leadership ever cease to amaze me? He should've "looked into it" last summer when gas prices were out of control.
All of us will be at the mercy of OPEC and BigOil until we cut our ties to foreign oil. That means car companies need to do better than just CAFE standards; solar and green energy needs to get a jump start now; and public transportation needs to be improved.
