Letter to the editor:

Why is only Ensign being singled out?

Thursday, June 25, 2009 | 2:01 a.m.

Although Sen. John Ensign’s extramarital affair cannot be overlooked, I am troubled by all the finger-pointing just in his direction. Have we forgotten that “it takes two to tango”?

I am sure the affair with Cynthia Hampton was consensual. Why does everyone look at her as the victim? Maybe she made the first move.

Yes, Sen. Ensign will take the heat but at least he has come out and apologized.

  1. Hey Joe >>>>> If Senator John Ensign was a Democrat this story would have lasted know more then 24 hours. THATS WHY!

  2. Cynthia Hampton did not take an oath to uphold the values of her constituency. She did not deliberately choose the public spotlight as a career. She did not publicly denounce other groups as "immoral," nor did she ride to victory on the basis of some kind of "family values" to which the rest of us are supposed to adhere but from which the elected "leader" is apparently exempt. She did not publicly condemn others who violated this presumed "moral" code by insisting on their total resignation but then suddenly do an about-face on such indignation when she got caught with her pants down. THAT is why Ensign is primarily in the news and not her. Got it?

  3. "If Senator John Ensign was a Democrat this story would have lasted know more then 24 hours."

Right...you keep telling yourself that, and maybe one day it'll come true.

It isn't that Senator Ensign got caught fooling around, it's the appearance of impropriety in doubling her salary for both jobs she worked in for him, getting her son a $1,000 a month consulting gig with the NRSC, paying her severance out of his own pocket (a violation of federal election law), and on and on...

  4. You go Teaser! Hit the nail squarely on the head!

  5. Teaser...There was a day she stood before God and witnesses and took a sacred vow. So, maybe she didn't get up on a soap box and publically denounce immoral behavior like Ensign, still her contribution was no less vile. And to let her husband go after J.E. the way he has...ummm...just stinks.

  6. Cindy Hampton is not an elected official that represented herself as a holier than thou Promise Keeper Christin. Her philandering is between her and her husband.

Ensign is a liar and a cheat and should resign!

  7. Because cheating and lying from elected officials isn't a forgone conclusion, right?
