CSN to delay 5 percent tuition hike

Monday, June 22, 2009 | 4:05 p.m.

The College of Southern Nevada won't immediately implement the 5 percent tuition and fee increase recently approved by the Board of Regents, the college announced today.

The increase will be deferred until spring semester to give students time to adjust their budgets. The 5 percent tuition increase scheduled for the 2010-2011 academic year will go forward as planned.

The Regents in a Friday meeting approved a 5 percent tuition increase for all undergraduate campuses in 2010 and another in 2011. They will come in the form of temporary surcharges to expire in 2011.

Some of that money will automatically go to scholarships for low-income students and all of the money will stay on the home campus.

  1. Good decision. Cuts to prevent it in the Spring would be even better. Affordability is the biggest barrier to education.
