Statement by Daniel Albregts, attorney for Doug and Cindy Hampton, regarding Sen. John Ensign's extramarital affair:
___
Doug and Cindy Hampton can confirm that they are the individuals referenced by Sen. Ensign during his press conference.
It is unfortunate the senator chose to air this very personal matter, especially after the Hamptons did everything possible to keep this matter private.
It is equally unfortunate that he did so without concern for the effect such an announcement would have on the Hampton family.
In time the Hamptons will be ready and willing to tell their side of the story. Until then, please respect their privacy.

Ensign is scum.
He has thrown his friends to the wind in a futile attempt to salvage what few crumbs there might delusionally be left of a political career.
If he actually did say something to colleagues about extortion, he's dumber than anyone thought. There are only two choices. Either it's true and he loses any innocent excuse for the pay raises, or it's not true and he has committed slander and worse.
Like Craig, who was too stupid to know not to talk to the guy in the other stall trying to set him up, Ensign has only confirmed that he's too stupid to be in public office. (We knew that already.) There's nothing wrong with having an affair. There is something dreadfully wrong about a politician who is this stupid and who would betray his friends for a whole lot of thin air.
An honorable man in his position would have silently crawled back to his kennels where he belongs, although I wouldn't recommend trusting your dog to him.
Ensign has almost topped Spitzer, who threw his comfort-giver to the wind in a similar attempt to beg for political crumbs. Instead of repenting for all the prosecutions he so hypocritically conducted, he viciously stepped on the young woman who had comforted him. His awful sin was not what he did with the young woman, but what he did to her.
We don't need people like this in public office. Not because they're sexual, but because they're treacherous hypocritical scum. And just plain stupid.
A Jimmy Swargert Hypocrite of the first order. At least Swagert seemed sincere. With all do respect to the Sun, I've been trying to get the LA tabloid press to hit the town, and put some big time resources into invetigating this issue, especially the financial and perjury elements of this situation. The more hound dogs you have, the better chance you have of treeing a rat. When Nevada isn't getting it's fair share of Federal Money to begin with, we don't need a non-entity like Ensign in Washington. He was a BIG Talker when it came to Iraq and now he is the biggest coward. This guy stuck his nose everywhere it did not belong. "He who is without sin cast the first stone." This guy came to Washington throwing stones, and Bible-thumping. That was his whole gimick, that and the hair-gel. Resign Ensign.
buffy: I disagree with your assessment. Spitzer did the right thing an resigned.....That's a WHOLE lot more honorable than what Ensign is doing. Talking about hypocricy you do recall that Ensign wanted Clinton impeached, right?..LOL!!! Why is it "different" when a republican gets caught with his pants down? If he were a Democrat there would be those familiar howls from your "family values" good ole boys shouting for his resignation, Vitters included!!
