Boulder City football works on rushing attack at camp

The Boulder City High football team left the Dixie State College camp in St. George, Utah, optimistic about the upcoming season.
The Eagles sent 50 players to the contact camp June 8 to 12 and spent most of the week working on their running game and blocking schemes. It was the lone week of the summer when the Eagles will practice in pads until mid-August.
Boulder City coach Alex Kazel said his team more than held its own against large-school classification teams like Spring Valley and Legacy highs of Las Vegas during twice daily scrimmages.
“We got a lot done up there,” Kazel said. “We were able to get some things accomplished with the interior players on the offensive and defensive lines.”
Boulder City’s offensive line returns five who started at least one game last year. Those five — tackles Mike Floyd and Kyle Erickson, guards Tate Boyster and John Garlinghouse, and center Bleu Huxford — helped pave the way for a slew of tailbacks who got carries during the scrimmages.
“We did a solid job of running the ball,” Kazel said. “We did a good job of being physical and getting after our blocks.”
The Eagles will continue their summer program with open workouts from 8 a.m. to 11 Monday through Thursday each week in the school’s weight room.
Two-a-day practices start Aug. 13 and the season opener is Aug. 28 against visiting Basic.
