Del Sol running back Earnest Hall crouches down in sorrow after a 35-28 loss against Las Vegas High School during the Sunrise Regional championship game at Frank Nails Field on Friday.

Palo Verde High’s football team added one of the valley’s top returning players this week.
Earnest Hall, who was an first-team all-Sunrise Region defensive back in 2008 for Del Sol, transferred to Palo Verde this week, Panthers coach Darwin Rost said.
Hall, a rising senior, also played tailback at Del Sol, rushing for 1,218 yards and 15 touchdowns last fall. His carries were limited late in the season when Derek Eamon (1,755 yards and 24 touchdown ) emerged as Del Sol’s No. 1 option.
Rost said Hall, who will be a three-year varsity performer, is participating in Palo Verde’s summer workout program.
While the Summerlin school gained a valuable transfer in Hall, it lost its most experienced player when quarterback Jahari Selmon transferred this week to Cheyenne. Selmon started Palo Verde’s state semifinal game in 2006 as a freshman, then went 10-0 under center as a sophomore before being injured in the regular season finale against Mojave.
Kelly Zurowski replaced Selmon and never relinquished the job, leading Palo Verde to within one point of the state title last fall. The Panthers were undefeated before losing 13-12 to Reno’s McQueen High in the state championship game.

High School students can transfer schools on a whim? Really?
They probably had to use a friend/relatives address. Or maybe their parents actually did move.
You can't blame the kids for changing schools, especially since they didn't violate any rules. As long as a family establishes residence in a new school zone -- like buying an apartment -- transferring is perfectly legal. But don't get me wrong, this is a huge problem. One that must be addressed by school officials.
Ray,
The article mentions nothing of establishing residence in a new school zone. It merely states that certain student athletes elected to tranfer to another school.
A co-worker pointed this article out to me and asked if students could merely transfer schools here. I said I didn't think so, but then read the article and asked the question...
I thought there was a rule which stated students have to attend the new school for six months before they can play a varsity sport? Maybe that's with a zone variance...
Gorman recruits, so why perhaps the others are doing their part to stay competetive........but this is a transient city, and with the economy, people might be on the move every six moths to a year from various rentals to new rentals or purchases.

"The Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association, the governing body in Nevada that sets eligibility rules for high school sports, requires varsity athletes to sit out 180 school days following their transfer."
According to this, he shouldn't see any action on the field at Palo Verde. I am going to call up to the NIAA on Monday however and raise this concern just to be sure Palo is playing by the rules.
I've had some experience with their "program" and let's just say they won't hesitate to try to bend the rules in their favor. Also don't forget that Rost's wife is a bigshot in the school district, so they have a little help from above.
