The Southern Nevada Building & Construction Trades Council announced today that it is endorsing Clark County Commission Chairman Rory Reid for governor.

Reid is expected to run as a Democrat for the office in 2010. Fellow Democrat Assembly Speaker Barbara Buckley also has eyes on the office. North Las Vegas Mayor Mike Montandon has entered the race as a Republican.

Steve Ross, executive secretary/treasurer of the council, said the endorsement came much earlier in the election cycle than normal.

“These are unprecedented times that call for unprecedented action," he said in a statement. "Coming out of a legislative session were the concerns of working men and women, like creating jobs, were too often put on the back burner, we need a leader who will bring a fresh perspective to Carson City. We believe that Rory Reid, with his years of service to Nevada and deep commitment to working families and creating jobs, is that leader.”

The council is comprised of about 22,000 people represented by 16 affiliated unions in Southern Nevada.
