I don’t want to give anyone any ideas, but there is a book in a collection of Jim Gibbons’ pathologically mendacious or just plain silly quotes. Take this nonsense from the wrapping paper for the Sun: “If it had not been my resistance to the spending and taxes of this session, those items would have been much higher. How much more of a burden can the working people take?” No one in the Legislative Building ever considered what The Man Formerly Known as Governor would accept — they knew he would veto anything from $1 to $1 billion. His reflexive opposition had no effect on the amount. Here’s what’s true: If he had done anything besides talk and tried to influence lawmakers, it might have been different. But he didn’t.
