Crash location

Eight people were injured in a four-vehicle crash late Friday afternoon in the eastern Las Vegas Valley.

Their injuries ranged from minor to critical, with two people clinging to life Friday night at a hospital on life support.

Metro Police responded at 4:49 p.m. to the crash at Boulder Highway and Russell Road. Investigators said a 2002 Lexus was traveling east on Russell in the left of two through travel lanes when the driver, 64-year-old Rudolph Ingram of Henderson, failed to stay in his lane and struck a 1999 Plymouth van stopped at a red light in the left turn lane of Russell Road.

The van was driven by 45-year-old Robert Moorhead of Los Angeles, who had minor injuries as a result of the crash, police said.

The Lexus then struck the rear of a 2006 Nissan Altima driven by Gretchen Steward, 20, of Henderson, who received minor injuries. The Nissan was pushed into the intersection, where a Citizens Area Transit bus traveling south through a green light on Boulder Highway struck the left front of the Nissan and the Lexus struck the right side of the bus. The collision ripped off part of a bus door, according to evidence and witnesses at the scene.

Ingram, the Lexus driver, and rear seat Nissan passenger 50-year-old Lois Pelz of Columbia City, Ind., were taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center in critical condition and are on life support, police said.

The remaining drivers and passengers were taken to Sunrise and University Medical Center Trauma Center with minor to moderate injuries.

The collision remains under investigation by Metro's Accident Investigation Detail. Police said a medical condition may have been a factor in the initial crash.

Southbound Boulder Highway was closed Friday evening while authorities investigated the crashes.
