Letter to the editor:
Support Obama as he tries to solve problems
Thursday, July 30, 2009 | 2:04 a.m.
It is not President Barack Obama’s fault ... that 10 percent of our workforce is out of work.
It is not Obama’s fault ... that so many banks and insurance companies went broke. Had the government not intervened, we would now be in the depths of a calamitous economic depression. (Remember, President George W. Bush made the first “bailout.”)
It is not Obama’s fault ... that over the past 50 years our U.S. companies shifted their manufacturing overseas to take advantage of lower labor costs.
It is not Obama’s fault ... that we no longer manufacture so many of the things we use. With rare exceptions, nothing bears the “Made in USA” label anymore.
It is not Obama’s fault ... that in 2007 U.S. health care spending was about $7,421 per resident and accounted for 16.2 percent of the nation’s gross domestic product. What was it in 2008 and what will it be in 2009?
It is not Obama’s fault ... that as of 2009 the U.S. government is spending about $1 trillion annually on defense-related purposes.
These are just some of the problems facing this man. I don’t know why he wanted the job, but now that he has it (and we voted him in), wouldn’t offering our president a little support be the right thing to do?

mike- some of what you say may be true...however...Obama spending us into bankruptcy and his turning our nation into a socialist country IS his fault and therefore,
deserving of NO support.
I guess its not Obamas fault that the change he promised is not taking place. I must admit that he's quite the orator, but action speaks louder than words.
Obama is the problem, not the solution.
Lying about campaign promises and transparency and change is his fault. He is no better than Bush.
Mr. Lombardi is correct. The current mess that we finds ourselves in isn't Obama's fault. The inept and clueless leadership of the Bush administration is where the "buck stops."
Obama has been the driver of the economic bus for approximately 6 months. The clueless man from Texas was in office 96 months (8 long years...).
We're a long, long way from socialism. The same charges were made by those who said that FDR was a socialist......we now know that FDR did not deliver us into the land of socialism. History will say the same about Obama.
just Mike: After being on the brink of bankruptcy, economic indicators are up.
Housing and unemployment will lag but the Dow is over 9,000 and banks are starting to get better with lending.
I realize you must say that this a normal recovery that would have happened anyway, but history will show that the stimulus package was the key to not going off the financial cliff that President Bush left the new administration.
Well you can judge a person by his deeds. In most cases Obamination's words are lies, his deeds none. This is the most egotistical and arrogant individual that I have ever seen hold that office. Time for him to go before he destroys this land of ours.
Support Obooma? Hell i say start impeachment process on him before we no longer have the USA!You offer all this help, but no one has recieved any help but the banks, auto, and a few of the rich! You want your own answer, just ask your troops how they feel about there so called, commander in chief!
Are you kidding me? He promised to promptly take care of this country and as we can see, it has gotten much worse.
Yes, rumrunner. Start the impeachment process!!!
We are in for a very long 3 1/2 years! All this damage in 6 months, can you just imagine what our country will be like in 2012?
Obama was a Senator for 4 years before becoming President. Just exactly WHAT did he do, or try to do in the Senate to prevent or lessen the problems we all now face? Absolutely nothing. Nothing. He never did and never will. He has other plans for each and every one of us. He is an egotistical jackass.
And one last thing,he talks about change in america. So why did he put the same crooks into office with him, that were already running us into the ground? If indeed he had any plans of change, there would have been names that we never heard of.We already had enough foxs in the hen house, why did we need another one?
Bush left us with the following. Aprrox 485 billion debt including the Iraq/Afghan war debt. A stimulus package and TARP package that took us to 1.3 trillion in debt. This all in the 8 years of Bush's presidency. Obama has added another 1 trillion dollars in 6 months and projections show we'll owe 10+ trillion in ten years if Crap and Trade and the Obamacare bills pass. Seems it would just be smarter and cheaper to pay off Bush's 1.3 trillion, but that wouldn't give him and him socialist followers enough control over our lives.
Finally, the US congress is getting off of the hook for this debt. The president, whether Bush or Obama can't spend one dime in Iraq or Afghanistan without the congress approving a budget that allows it. The President can't spend a stimulus bill without the Congress approval. The President can't change health care without Congressional approval and funding, just like we're seeing now. We need to scream at our representatives more and the presidents less.
Let's start by asking them to read the entire 1,000 pages of the health care bill.
AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST,So Obooma, wheres my dividend check from my tax bail out?You gave away my tax money, and as in any business,i want my cut back! WITH INTREST!!!
"THE EMPEROR HAS NO CLOTHES!"
START IMPEACHMENT NOW!!! BEFORE WE NO LONGER OWN AMERICA!!!
I got all the change I ever wanted out of Obama (and more) the day he stepped into office - getting the neoCon/republicans out of the White House was #1 on my list of change. And damn, it feels good. Lovin' this change!!!
And the neoCons are simply coming apart at the seams...tripping all over themselves in the race to irrelevancy. Nostradumbasses who voted for GWB twice...sorry, but your opinion is deemed worthless. You need a timeout.
I for one, implore the neoCons to please keep the birther movement going, keep the teabaggin parties going, keep Rushbo & Beck running their ignorant pieholes, keep Palin in the media spotlight, keep the grayhairs screaming at town hall meetings, keep pushing all the racism, hate and spite...all that stuff does is help the Democrats even more. Perhaps someday you'll wake up and realize it's counter-productive.
....."huge tax increases like you have never even dreamt of".... uddeboda, You mean like what you're paying in Europe now. I don't want to be like Europe? Tell me socialism in Europe has kept unemployment low and your standard of living higher than the US.... I've been to Europe numerous times and your economies are in the tank. So what you're suggesting is that we join you in the toilet through socilaism..... not in my lifetime, pal !!!
We had the democraps incharge of congress the last 2 years of the Bush admin. They sat and did nothing!!!So dont tell me its all Bush s fault! Repooplican,or Democrap have no intrest in what americans want, just how they can pad there pockets!!!! PLAIN AND SIMPLE!!!!
swede-boy uddeboda
so u still don't have a life eh? nothing better to do in your own "workers paradise" than comment on our country, state, and city thousands of miles away.
keep on typing, my friend! what u fail to realize is that u only strengthen the arguments of those of us opposed to our current far left government with your presence here!
the fact that somebody from a socialist country defends and applauds Obama's every move speaks volumes as to Obama's political goals.
thanks for your input!
Mr. Obama is doing his best to make this country whole again. How long did you think it would take to clean up the mess that was 8 years in the making? Also, what politian hasnt lied about campain promises? Grow up!
"Bush inherited a projected 6 Trillion surplus over the next 10 years from Clinton."
Now you are making up stuff.
Bush inherited a recession from Clinton that started in the last year of Clinton's term.
Bush also inherited a dozen or so thugs from Clinton that were running around taking flight lessons.
"PROJECTED surplus"
yeah that's "fact".
it might not be his "fault"...i don't give politicians that much credit...good or bad, but he isn't helping things.
look, i'll explain it once again for you hippie liberals...
put down the bong and pay attention.
1) "rich" people are not human ATM machines for you to tax at will for your social programs.
2) you can NOT tell the evil "rich" people that you are going to tax them even MORE to pay for a health care plan that anyone with a 9th grade education can see is a disaster waiting to happen.
1) + 2) = the "rich" people get scared and stop spending money...like coming to vegas, buying cars, starting businesses, etc. and that means no NEW jobs are created and there is no reason for companies to hire back people they have let go.
understand?
i hope so.
this is 10th grade economics. not political, but economics.
jobs and wealth are created from the top to the bottom, NOT from the bottom to the top.
it doesn't work. it's never worked.
the people at the top...those evil "rich" people that you liberals love to tax have the money ( not saying it's always "good" thing ) and the resources for research, capital, construction, etc.
you can't take that away and give it to the bottom.
sure, it sounds great, it sounds nice, but it doesn't work.
take $10,000 and give it to a homeless person. what will they do with that?
buy some clothes, maybe get off the street for a few months, be able to eat for a few months until that money runs out.
take that same $10,000 and give it to a guy like steve wynn. he will take that $10,000 and buy t.v. ads for his resort and bring in way MORE than the $10,000 he used for the commercials and that's money for tips for waitresses, taxi drivers, maids, the guy that makes the slot machines, the guy that works at the ad agency, etc.
you liberals do not understand this stuff because you've been brainwashed into thinking capitalism = republican = evil.
Obama isn't responsible for anything. I am waiting for one of the lib fools here to post a comment as to how Pres Bush is to blame for the incident with Mr. Gates.
Obama hasn't got a clue what to do except blame Bush. He is too busy running our country over a cliff so his lackeys in unions stay happy.
I swear americans aren't for america anymore. When I read some of these comments I wonder what happened to the camaraderie after 9/11? does a catastrophe have to hit in order to unite? Are all the commentators americans or american hating terrorists? all the hate towards a president that has only been in office five months, I just don't understand it. who should we be more worried about terrorists or home grown americans hating and spewing hatreds towards each other like third graders ? if we impeached the president who would you replace him with, wouldn't that really put our country in more turmoil? is that what you want the country in more turmoil? none of you can think of compromising, working together, team orientation? two towers have to come down again before we have love for each other? wow
Gordon, so Mr. Wizard, how does trickle up work?
I have never been hired by an unemployed, welfare recipient.
Explain in your most intellectual framework how trying to raise my taxes and lower my standard of living is going to help Mr./Mrs. Welfare or for that matter how is raising the minimum wage going to help the under-educated, ill-prepared worker rise above their station in life.
Remember, traditionally minimum wage was for ENTRY level employees. Currently, thanks to the Democrat union whores it is the career pinacle for happless pawns.
Wakeup-You damned right I hate this country. The parasites who elected this moron to the presidentcy are greedy, self serving despicable people. They are too dumb to do a day's work and save a little of it for their later years. They are incapable of taking care of themselves and demand the government (funded by people who are better than they are) take care of them. We would have been as well off if Hitler had won the war as that semiliterate fool in the White House is no better than Der Fuerer. If you need the government (honest taxpayers) to support you and pay your doctor bills, you don't deserve to live in what was once the finest country in the world.
gordon, how about you answer the question.
I am not baffled about anything except the bizarre love interest you Libs have in giving the store away.
stevem,
excellent post breaking down basic economics! unfortunately it's probably still too advanced for most lib fools to fathom.
hmmmmm, Gordon, lets look at reality.
what u want is classic Soviet Union and China.
"From each according to his ability, to each according to his need"
we all know what became of the Soviet Union, and we all should now know what is becoming of China NOW that they have embraced CAPIATALISM (keeping in mind that under SOCIALISM millions starved, and the country used to have a 3rd world standard of living)
but now that they have unleashed the power of the market, they are rapidly becoming the NEW world superpower.
wake up before it's too late.
spelling error - CAPITALISM
swede-boy,
SOCIALISM is an ECONOMIC system (as in contrast to CAPITALISM.)
COMMUNISM is a POLITICAL system (as in contrast to DEMOCRACY.)
ever hear of the U.S.S.R.????
Union of Soviet SOCIALIST Republics.
and apparently nobody told you that China is STILL COMMUNIST. but they follow a CAPITALIST economic model.
I caught my own spelling error, perhaps you should spend your spare time reading something more challenging than comic books before you try to correct others.
Have a great socialist day!
"Thats the way capitalism works, the rich get stinking rich and the poor just get poorer and poorer, like the 47 mn in the USA living in "poverty", and very few care a sh#t about them, so many say, they have only got themselves to blame, NO, its the system thats to blame."
You are very wrong on this. The Liberal apologists use this line to keep people poor. In the US everybody has the opportunity to rise above his station. Things like the Teachers Union and Government handouts strive to keep Americans dumbed down
Lotta bitchin going on here, but none of you have any answers on how to fix things. If you did you would not be here but in Washington showing them how to get things done. Hmmmm.
Answer to fix things is easy.
#1. Put Term Limits on house and senate members. No more than 10 years.
#2. Any country we owe debt, say too bad your not getting it. (what are they gonna do attack us?)
#3. Start drilling our own oil, demand Mexico supply us with 1 million barrells a day to compensate for all the greenbacks being sent to there coutry via illegals.
#4. Put huge tariffs on foreign goods, including those produced by American Companies in China, Mexico, India etc. (this will encourage buying American and bringing back jobs to the US)
#5. Bring our troops home and secure our borders once and for all.
#6. Eliminate all funding for illegal aliens and children born here of two non legal citizens. (medical, education, etc.)
#7. Stop aiding foreign countries with money (you are all on your own for once).
THis is a good start. I have many more to add, but want to hear some good ideas from the posters. Maybe we can compile a list of changes and take it to our local congressman and senator for immediate action (written in total sarcasm).
boda, You do not need higher education to do well in america. You need to be able to do work. I know that sounds crazy, but if you show up, work hard, keep your nose to the grindstone you will do well.
Gordon, your little theories are great, but explain how somebody on welfare is running a business or hiring people to do work. Trickle up is great isn't it.
besides supporting Obama is like carrying your own rope to the gallows.
gordon, my kids are paying for Obama's sins.
Yes Bush hammered the economy but he didn't do by drunken midnight spending (well, at the end he did) He had to pay for Katrina, two wars and creation of Homeland Security.
Why, oh why, can't you libs see that the bank account is empty but since Obama has checks he's going to write them anyway?
I am glad you are the human fact machine but you still aren't answering a simple question. Come on, you know which one it is.
Hint: Welfare, job creation and taxing me into oblivion to keep the huddled masses huddled.
That's a question?
getalife writes: "gordon, my kids are paying for Obama's sins."
--
No, I believe your kids are still paying for the heaping national debtload of Reagan sins and BushI & II sins. The Obama sins haven't kicked in yet.
Mia, good point, doesn't that start tomorrow?
Gordon, My knowledge of welfare is obviously more on point than yours. If you truly believe a disabled person is on welfare you are so good at twisting reality you are the human tornado.
Abled body people shouldn't be one welfare, they should get off their arses and work.
If you believe unemployment insurance is welfare; again tornado.
Sorry if I think too plainly and rationally for you.
By your expansive version of welfare I guess I am on welfare because I have a job that pays me money printed by the government.
This is why liberalism is a mental disorder, you can't think clearly. You libs are always looking to appease everybody. Life isn't fair and people sometimes lose.
I know you will answer with some garbage about how heartless I am but it is true, we cannot bail out every idiot for his stupidity.
Gordon,
getalife has u pegged. u are living in a liberal fantasyland.
so u believe u can just take more and more from those who ALREADY pay the vast majority of taxes in this country, and give more to all of the "dowtrodden masses". Including giving what u like to call a "tax cut" to 95% of working americans, even though the "tax cut" as obama and u liberals envision it is actually a government giveaway, as it will give a "tax cut" to millions WHO DON'T EVEN PAY INCOME TAX. i.e. obama has been advocating huge tax "credits" as a means of wealth redistribution.
and u further contend that the money government seizes from the producers and employers in this country will then go back to them and grow their businesses as the masses spend their government "free money"????
pure fantasy. u just don't get it. I would daresay u have never started a business. or been in charge of making a payroll for your employees. no, you've always been collecting a check, and bitc**** that you "deserve" to make as much or more as the man or woman who runs your company.
Pragmatic leadership????!!!!!! my keyboard just threw-up.
Gordon, you need deprogramming and I am sorry, but I have a job and a life so I cannot help you.
Just because the check comes from Welfare doesn't mean you are on Welfare. My check gets turned into American money and at the rate Obama is going my next couple of checks are going to be cashed by the Monopoly dude.
Debunk anything you would like. Your sources are so left-leaning I had to adjust my horizontal hold to read them.
wakeup you make an excellent point. I am very disappointed in what I read here. Its the Democrats against the Republicans. They constantly attack each other and forget we are Americans and isn't about time we stop complaining and work together to change what has happened. I didn't vote for Bush in 2000. I did have a problem with the system letting someone who lost the popular vote by 500,000 votes still get elected. Of course the electorate should have been eliminated years ago. When Bush became president I said we have to support our President. It's what Americans do. I did until he took us to war in Iraq. That was a disturbing move. I didn't agree with this move but ultimately returned to trying to support Bush. I am very concerned that we as Americans don't seem to want to support our country but only complain that its the liberals fault or the conservatives fault. I think we are all to blame. By the way I have been an independent all my voting life. I still vote for the person not the party. Of course that's my opinion, I could be wrong.
It is a complete myth that they can fund all of these socialist programs from a tax increase on the shoulders of the top 5%. Believe me, this is impossible. And who do you think they are going to go to when they can't sustain these programs? Hello! It's the lower 95%!
"Believe me, this is impossible."
--
How so?
Please excuse me for joining the party late (as usual).
Mr. Lombardi, or anyone for that matter, please explain why I should support President Obama if I do not agree with his plans? Try not to complain or blame, just explain why I should support him.

I don't have much time,
What a surprise that this comes from the DailyKos!
http://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/8/2/7...
also,
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32260411/ns/...
here's a nice clip
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k8R7XqFd1...
It is not practical that taxes on the top 5% can sustain long term health care for every smoker, drinker, junkie, and fatass in the country. Even the Obama administration knows this.
This just in, check out Drudge report's lead story!
I'll post the link to the article Drudge references
http://finance.yahoo.com/news/2-Obama-of...
So to reiterate, it is a complete myth that they can fund all of these socialist programs from a tax increase on the shoulders of the top 5%.
Believe me, this is impossible.
For effect, here is the headline:
2 Obama officials: No guarantee taxes won't go up
2 Obama administration officials can't guarantee middle-class Americans won't see tax hike
"There is a lot that can happen over time," Summers said, adding that the administration believes "it is never a good idea to absolutely rule things out, no matter what."

Yeah, Read Mt Lips!
Which is worse:
The Tax & Spend Democrats
-or the-
The Taxcut & Borrow & Spend Republicans?
Mia,
He had no problem ruling it out when he was campaigning!
But now he has all of these very expensive programs rolling out.
I guess we'll have to wait and see if President Obama can keep all of his campaign promises, Henderson.
No matter how you slice it, President Obama did inherit a huge mess with a recession in progress, two wars going on, massive deficits and the biggest national debt in history from President Bush.
Not true Mia,
We WILL have to wait and see how many more campaign promises he will break. Here's some interesting reading for you.

Oops! Throw a 'Bush' in there for me, k?
