Letter to the editor:

Support Obama as he tries to solve problems

Thursday, July 30, 2009 | 2:04 a.m.

It is not President Barack Obama’s fault ... that 10 percent of our workforce is out of work.

It is not Obama’s fault ... that so many banks and insurance companies went broke. Had the government not intervened, we would now be in the depths of a calamitous economic depression. (Remember, President George W. Bush made the first “bailout.”)

It is not Obama’s fault ... that over the past 50 years our U.S. companies shifted their manufacturing overseas to take advantage of lower labor costs.

It is not Obama’s fault ... that we no longer manufacture so many of the things we use. With rare exceptions, nothing bears the “Made in USA” label anymore.

It is not Obama’s fault ... that in 2007 U.S. health care spending was about $7,421 per resident and accounted for 16.2 percent of the nation’s gross domestic product. What was it in 2008 and what will it be in 2009?

It is not Obama’s fault ... that as of 2009 the U.S. government is spending about $1 trillion annually on defense-related purposes.

These are just some of the problems facing this man. I don’t know why he wanted the job, but now that he has it (and we voted him in), wouldn’t offering our president a little support be the right thing to do?
