Crash Location

A Metro Police officer was injured in a traffic collision this morning in downtown Las Vegas.

The 30-year-old male officer, who was riding a motorcycle, was taken to University Medical Center where he was treated then released, authorities said.

The officer was traveling east on Bridger Avenue about 9:40 a.m. when a westbound 1997 Toyota T100 pickup truck turning left on a green light onto Casino Center Boulevard entered the motorcycle’s path, authorities said.

The driver of the Toyota has been identified as Hector Sanchez, 46, of Las Vegas.

Metro hasn’t released the officer’s name.

  1. Will it ever end? How many crashes do these cops have to cause before something is done about them? I saw several cops driving while talking on their cell phones while just crusing yesterday. They run red lights, they make u turns where clearly prohibited. They make unsafe lane changes. They speed when they are not answering a call. The thing about it is that they don't care what the public thinks. Yet they have the nerve to admonish someone while writing a ticket. Everyone sees them yet so what. Who polices the police? I am so tired of seeing the infractions these people blatantly make with immunity. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE

  2. LV4 - My memory serves me right, a left turn must "YIELD".

  3. Steve is correct, Mr. Sanchez didn't have a green ARROW, he had a green LIGHT. Making a left turn on a green light means you have to yield to oncoming traffic.

  4. Guess he didn't get the memo... "if your going to be in a crash use a black and white"

  5. the "hot donut" sign must have been on.

    seriously...

this is getting out of control with the cop accidents.

    dear cops:

how about you chill the hell out and stop doing u-turns every time to shake down someone going 2 miles over the speed limit.

  6. Stevem and other fools,

Either you are in 3rd grade or have the equivocal reading comprehension.

According to the article here, the Officer was eastbound; the driver of the pickup was making the turn! Until other information comes available, this is a fairly clear indication that the driver of the pickup failed to yield to the Officer who had the right of way.

  7. Steve M is a mental midget. Read the article Steve-O. The pickup driver is at fault, and until more info comes to light, this is how it will stand.

  8. SteveM... There have been a rash of Police involved accidents (or whatever you want to call them). When you give a young person a high-performance vehicle and all the do-dads inside of them that cause distractions and then an occasional burst of adrenaline bads things can happen. But to say "out of control"? I would venture to say that if the RJ or Sun posted an article every time there was any accident that's all the paper would have in it. Because the accident involved a police officer is why it's news-worthy. Heck, I bet a police officer running over an animal would make the paper. I've seen some minor traffic infractions made by Metro officers but it pales in comparison to the number of infractions we all do on a daily basis, on purpose or not.

  9. This sounds like a very common type of motorcycle accident. Motorcycle Patrol is a hazardous occupation.

I'm glad the officer was not injured seriously enough to be hospitalized.

  10. Maybe the guy turning had a green arrow and the cop went thru a red.. Then again the driver's name was Sanchez, fn illegals causing wrecks

  11. As a person who observed it i'll say this. The cop was going lights/siren into a solid green light. It appears from others that were around after it happened they both had the green and the truck just failed to yield and turned into the officer's path. I saw on the news that the officer was going to help another Officer out. Last time i checked...isn't that what these people get paid to do? Protect and Serve? To see such an ignorant comment like LV4's up above and SteveM makes me wonder what this society has turned into. A bunch of non-appreciative thugs it sounds like. I'd bet money those two are not good hard working people. The only people that I see that complain about cops are those that have been in trouble with the Law. We grew up respecting the police and they should still. Yes, Las Vegas Police has had alot of recent accidents lately. But so do truck drivers? Just took a road-trip and noticed 5 rigs in accidents between here and California. The more hours you log driving, the more likely you are to get into a wreck. Quit your complaining and be happy that there are people out there that are willing to do the kinda jobs like Police, EMS, Fire, Nursing, Teaching.
