Bill introduced to end government tourism blacklist
Friday, July 24, 2009 | 4:07 p.m.
U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson of Florida has filed two bills that would make it unlawful for federal agencies to blacklist certain cities as sites for conferences just because they're popular resort destinations.
Nelson filed the bills Friday. He says some federal agencies have blacklisted popular destinations like Orlando and Las Vegas because of perceptions that people go there to have fun as opposed to doing work.
Nelson says that Senate Majority Leader Harry Leader Harry Reid of Nevada also is concerned about reports of the blacklist.
The first bill is an amendment to the agricultural appropriations bill. The second bill will be added to tourism promotion legislation.
The Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday that it viewed a May e-mail from an FBI employee obtained by the U.S. Travel Association that read The Department of Justice "decided conference[s] are not to be held in cities that are vacation destinations/spa/resort/gambling. Las Vegas and Orland[o] are the first 2 on the chopping block."

The President runs the administration and if he says don't go to Las Vegas on the taxpayers dime, they wont do it no matter what the Congress says. The man is determined to destroy anything that caters to the wealthy and to destroy the wealthy as well. Las Vegas is a brand he just hates.
Why hasn't Reid been all over this since the first day Obama made that comment? Could it be he didn't want to go against "the great one" in backing his state? If that is the case, then clearly the best for Nevada is not one of his priorities. Instead some guy from Florida comes up with a bill, and Reid say's Oh yea that's a concern. Hello
The Nevada congressional delegation, particularly Harry Reid, is in the bag for Obama and would never do anything to upset him or be politically incorrect. Obsiously we have the wrong people representing the best interests of our state. Maybe we should retain the Florida delegation to represent us instead? Remeber this in the next election.
neiman1 has found his way out of the stupid hole to post more stupidity. He seeems to forget the financial institutions that the American people bailed out at a cost of seven hundred billion dollars turned around and held private parties in Las Vegas and other resort cities where large bonuses were paid to the very people who got the financial institutions in trouble in the first place. This is the reason people were shocked at the behavior of these bailed out financial institutions and the cities they held their retreats in. By the way George Bush started this when he and McCain handed over the first three hundred fifty billion dollars without one ounce of oversight.
It is just like neiman to try to make a case based on lies.
neiman if you knew the facts George Bush has no use for Nevada and gaming. But then again who would expect you to know the any of the real facts about anything?
neiman I'll bet you conveniently forgot the bill McCain sponsored and introduced that made betting on all collegiate sports illegal. Does he have an agenda with destroying anything that has to do with those that cater to the wealthy or destroyong the wealthy? You have done it again, made a fool of yourself.
