North Las Vegas Police detectives have arrested 39-year-old Benjamin Miles Cordova, a police officer within their department, on fraud charges for allegedly using a department credit card to buy personal belongings.

About 9:30 a.m. today detectives took Cordova, a 6 1/2-year veteran of the department, to the North Las Vegas Detention Center, said Chrissie Coon, a spokeswoman for the police department.

Cordova was booked on three counts of credit card fraud and three counts of receiving property obtained by unlawful use of a credit card. All counts are felonies.

Cordova was arrested after a week-long criminal investigation conducted by North Las Vegas Police. That investigation was prompted by an internal complaint regarding the disappearance of a department credit card, Coon said.

The criminal complaint alleges that Cordova used department credit cards to purchase personal property on at least three separate occasions.

Cordova has been placed on paid administrative leave during the investigation, Coon said.
