Letter to the editor:

Legislative rush jobs are defining Obama

In a Las Vegas Sun editorial Saturday headlined “Critics: Real ID is unreal,” the Sun stated, regarding the Real ID Act, “Although its intention was good, the Bush administration followed its usual pattern — quickly writing legislation and pushing it through a Republican-controlled Congress without thinking much about problems that could arise.” It was protested because it was “too expensive and unworkable from technical and privacy standpoints,” so the Bush administration delayed implementation.

Why isn’t this criticism applied to:

• President Barack Obama’s health care bill, based on questionable numbers (we don’t really know how many Americans are uninsured); it’s estimated the legislation’s cost will be in the trillions and Obama wants it passed before August without proper reading?

• Obama’s cap-and-trade bill — which Speaker Nancy Pelosi battered the House Democrats to get passed — that will impose huge costs on energy, increase prices and cost jobs in this country, and is based on questionable science?

• The $787 billion, defective stimulus bill?

Everything Obama wants is rush, rush, rush, and pass it, without reading it, and the Democrats are obliging him. Why is this legislation not slowed down and objectively and intelligently thought through before we further sink this country economically and industrially, and impose huge tax burdens that Obama is proposing?

It appears the Obama administration is more determined than the Republican administration before it to quickly write legislation and push it through a Democrat-controlled Congress without thinking much about the problems that could arise.
