Crash injures man near Sam Boyd Stadium

Injury accident

Three people were injured when two vehicles collided Sunday afternoon near Sam Boyd Stadium.

Metro Police said the driver of a 2008 Mercedes failed to stop at the intersection of Broadbent Boulevard and Copper Creek Parkway and collided with a 1993 Toyota Tacoma, injuring both men in the truck.

The 27-year-old passenger of the Toyota, Martin Altamirano, was taken to Sunrise Hospital with serious injuries, investigators said. The driver of the truck, Franciso Robles, suffered minor injuries, police said.

The 55-year-old driver of the Mercedes, Crisanto Lopez, also suffered minor injuries. Two passengers in the Mercedes weren't hurt, police said.

At about 1 p.m., the Mercedes was headed eastbound on Copper Creek and failed to yield the right of way, causing the southbound Toyota to strike the Mercedes’ left side, police said.

Police continue to investigate the collision.
