Gearing up for his run for reelection, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is putting money in the bank.

Reid, who is planning to raise $25 million for his campaign, already has almost $11 million, Friends for Harry Reid announced today. The group said Reid, with 16 months left until the November 2010 election, has more than $7.33 million in cash on-hand.

In the last three months of fundraising, Reid raised more than $3.25 million, the group said, citing numbers it will file Wednesday with the Federal Elections Commission.

"Our campaign is strong and getting stronger by the day," Reid said in a statement. "The financial support we have already received will enable us to run a campaign that communicates with Nevadans in every corner of the state."

Brian Walsh, communications director for the National Republican Senatorial Committee, criticized what he called Reid's focus on fundraising.

"It's clear the only Nevadan who is benefiting from Harry Reid having the title of Senate Majority Leader is Harry Reid," Walsh said in an e-mail. "While he's spending all this time stocking his campaign war chest with PAC money from his Washington friends, Nevada homes are being foreclosed at a record rate and unemployment is among the highest in the nation."

Reid was elected to the Senate in 1986. He was re-elected in 1992, 1998 and 2004.
