Letter to the editor:

Passion proves Palin’s doing something right

Tuesday, July 14, 2009 | 2:04 a.m.

There recently has been a plethora of articles and commentaries about Sarah Palin. On Sunday alone, The New York Times ran two columns about Palin, by Frank Rich and Maureen Dowd.

Palin, whom I perceive as this small-town girl, seems to command as much print as the King of Pop. One thing seems clear — wherever Sarah is, there’s a crowd. Why all the fuss?

Even Dave Letterman fell prey recently to Palinism — and he paid for it, eventually, finding it within himself to apologize for some foul comments he had made because of his obsession with Sarah. But why? Op-ed columnists, talking heads and talk-show hosts are probably asking themselves the same question.

This is a truly small-town girl from Alaska. She has no impressive credentials, no Ivy League pedigree. She is a person of modest means who was raised in the small-town heartland of Alaska. So I just don’t get it.

What real harm can she do? Why is she such a threat to liberals?

Maybe it’s because Palin stands for something. Maybe it’s her clear and decisive values about what’s good and what isn’t, and that she cuts to the chase. Maybe it’s her passion. Whatever it is, Palin sure draws flaming heat from the liberal left. When all is said and done, you just know that if Palin didn’t have a point of view worth debating, then she’d receive no criticism.

  1. What I dont get is the Obsession that people like you have with Palin. You drop the usual cliche term "liberals" to describe anyone who doesnt like her. I am a proud Independent who has voted for both parties over the years (including my most faux vote in 2000, for Bush). Im pro death penalty and pro gun rights, and Im anything but "liberal" in my ideology, and I cant stand Palin. Anyone who would seriously try to argue in favor of her suitability as Leader of the Free World is a great argument in favor of testing before electoral registration, to find out if the person casting a vote has enough grasp of what they are voting for to be allowed to cast it. People who think its some sort of "beauty contest" in which they vote in the person most likely to irritate the "other side" are not mentally competent enough to deserve the RIGHT to vote. Dont YOU get it??

  2. To me, Pailin represents some of the most pointless thoughtlessness of the failed Bush administration, and the press seems to write about her in the same vein as they do Michael Jackson. Stories about her should be in the entertainment section, not politics, as she has few credentials and no credibility with me.

  3. "Why is she such a threat to liberals?" you ask. I don't think she is, but what is threatening is the fact that so many people are enamored of her. How can anyone see her as an intelligent prospect for national office confounds liberals - she has shown little or no grasp of the world outside of her own home town. What she does demonstrate, in my mind, is that many on the right side of the aisle are desperately looking for a leader, any leader, and are willing to rally around Palin simply because she is among their ranks.

  4. saintsubversive said ".. I cant stand Palin."

UncleNed said "To me, Pailin represents some of the most pointless thoughtlessness..."

rgplpc said "How can anyone see her as an intelligent prospect for national office confounds liberals - she has shown little or no grasp of the world..."

These people are typical of the liberals who outsource their comments from Democratic deepthroat Levi Johnson, inept Comedian ""she shows herself to be very, very shallow -- you know, as they say, stunningly superficial.." Joy Behar, and Cut-and-Paste Stenographer Commentator Maureen Dowd.

rgplpc asks "Why is she such a threat to [us] liberals?"

Well liberal need to answer that question instead of acting like Behar and Dowd.

  5. Make no mistake about it, liberals would LOVE to see Sarah Palin as the choice of republicans who vote in the 2012 primaries. Run, baby, run. I think I'll chip in a couple of bucks to her PAC just to help out.

  6. Anyone who understands the need for the two party system in american politics should understand why Sarah Palin should not be a candidate for president in 2012. Most Republicans and virtually all Independents realize that she would insure larger Democratic majorities in both the House and the Senate for the foreseeable future. As there are few viable Republican candidates at this time, the Party must cultivate a candidate that can give President Obama a credible challenge in 2012, if only to eliminate Palin from national politics and restore credibility to the Party.
I think Sarah has decided to "take the money and run", and why blame her. McCain made her the "Queen of Pop" so she should go for the book money and speaking fees and give up the unattainable political aspirations. People tend to throw good money after bad for a long time once they are committed to something, and she can continue to milk John McCain's mistake for years. From what I hear from Alaskans, she reached her level of competence as Mayor of Wasilla.

  7. "Anyone who understands the need for the two party system..."

This is not something that Democrats believe.

Why is it that Democrats seek to constantly determine who should be on a Republican ticket.

While Democrats are trying to pick the Republican leadership between NON ELECTED Colin Powell and Rush Limbaugh.

Conservatives know that Liberals run the Democratic Party as lead by:

    - Slur-laden hate trader and Democrat celebrity blogger Perez Hilton
-Hollywood starlet spokesperson "tea parties are "about Rednecks "hating a black man"" Janeane Garofalo
    - Hollywood star spokesperson Hugo Rafael Chavez Frias fascist supporter Sean Penn,
    - frauduant voter registrar ACORN and SEIU founder Wade Rathke,
    - Check-card intimidator SEIU President Andy Stern,
    - Out of Wedlock dead beat geezer, sexually perverted kiddy porn "I don't think it's funny" clown Dave Lettermen
    - Mega Billionaire Hedge Fund manager, and pro-creator of TARP George Soros,
    - MoveOn .Org founder and anti-American open borders Wes Boyd
    - CNN blogger Jack Cafferty
    - Tingling newscasters Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann,
-Matthew's and Olbermann's boss and Cap-in-Trade benefactor Jeffery Immelt
-Releaser of Classified National intelligence information NY Times Editor Bill Keller
    - Inept Comedian and giddy celebrator of tormentors ""she shows herself to be very, very shallow -- you know, as they say, stunningly superficial.." Joy Behar,
    - Cut-and-Paste Stenographer Commentator Maureen Dowd, and
    - Democratic deepthroat source Levi Johnson

Liberals are hiding their real Leadership in the corrupt Congressional Leadership:

    - Scam land baron, law breaker, and inept midnight lawmaker Majority Leader Harry Reid,
    - Mortgage defrauder Senate Banking Chairman Chris Dodd,
    - Air America, SNL, and Porn Comic Alfred E. Franken, (writer of "Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them: A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right," and "Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot and other Observations.")
    - Tainted ex-Federal Lobbyist Roland Burris,
    - Air Force 2 frequent flyer, ardent immigration leftista, EIT denier, and inept lawmaker House Speaker Madam Nancy Pelosi,
    - Tax dodger House Ways and Means Chairman Charlie Rangel
    - Fannie/Freddie BFF House Banking Chairman Barney Franks

  8. Maybe I can help: She's just not all that bright or informed.

Don't know about you, but I like my leaders to come with a superior-type brain, really knowing what's going on. I don't want a "home town girl" running the country. The Ivy League is very selective - it's too bad that some people see it as elitist because it's an academic group that chooses the best and brightest. I want the best and brightest in office.

I think what really has "liberals" and many others miffed is that she is a symbol of the fact that we have millions of American voters who are anti-intellect, lacking in critical thinking skills, uninformed, prejudiced against people not like them, single-issue voters, and gullible, and we've seen what happens in elections due to those voters. We saw "feed the rich" Reagan sanctified twice, and GW "Huh?" Bush voted in twice.

Palin is scary because she represents those Americans who are helping to bring their country down through their faux patriotism and religious zealotry - and their voting habits. Why faux patriotism? My own personal opinion is that if you do not stay well informed and yet you vote, you are not doing your patriotic duty as a citizen. And I don't see how anyone who is well informed could possibly vote for Palin. Some of us are also disgusted and frightened by the millions who vote simply based on religion.

  9. Sarah Palin? Her mouth is in gear, but her brain is in neutral.

  10. gunowners: Nice job! My sentiments exactly

edgewise; Short & sweet, but says it all too.

  11. "...Don't know about you, but I like my leaders to come with a superior-type brain..."

So what does that do with Harry Reid and Alfred E. Franken.

  12. Future: You take so much effort with your Joseph McCarthy-like diatribes you should change you cut-and-paste comments after you learn how to spell Barney Frank's name. Barney Frank!

  13. "Joseph McCarthy-like diatribes"

Stop talking about Harry Reid like that.

Anyway "Franks the hotdog" still has to go.

    Zero sense of humor.

I can see why RRRRory is next in line for you.

  14. I want to quote a few sagacious phrases from another GREAT consevative and American like Sarah Palin - RONALD WILSON REAGAN - who said..."The nearest rhing to eternal ife we will ever see on this planet is a government program" and..."Government's view of the economy can be summed up in a few phrases - if it moves, TAX it. If it keeps moving, REGULATE it. And if it stops moving, SUBSIDIZE it!" Sure sounds like our present federal government.

  15. "...Don't know about you, but I like my leaders to come with a superior-type brain..."

Future: So what does that do with Harry Reid and Alfred E. Franken?

Reading Sarah Palin's educational biography almost brought me to tears the way she clawed her way through those institutions of higher learning to become such a great contributor to society. Her time spent working at the Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman as a sports reporter was especially inspirational. Not like those lackeys Reid and Franken.

Sarah Palin enrolled at Hawaii Pacific College in Honolulu. She left after one semester and transferred to North Idaho Community college. After attending North Idaho College for two semesters majoring in general studies, Palin won the Miss Wasilla Pageant, receiving a college scholarship and the "Miss Congeniality" award. Palin transferred to the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho. After two semesters at UI, Palin returned to Alaska and attended Matanuska-Susitna Community college for one term in the fall of 1985. She returned to the University of Idaho in January 1986, where she spent three semesters completing her bachelor's degree in communications with an emphasis in journalism, graduating in 1987. In 1988, she worked as a part time sports reporter for KTUU-TV and KTVA-TV in Anchorage and for the Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman as a sports reporter.

Al Franken attended Harvard College and graduated cum laude in 1973 with a bachelor of arts degree in political science. Franken has served as a volunteer with the United Service Organizations since he first visited Kosovo in 1999. Franken has conducted several overseas tours to both Iraq and Afghanistan, in addition to participating in numerous celebrity handshake tours at military hospitals to visit wounded soldiers. On March 25, 2009, Franken was presented with the USO's Merit Award for his 10 years of service to the organization through visiting injured and deployed service members.

Reid attended Southern Utah University and Utah State University. He then got his juris doctor from George Washington University. He has been reelected to the Senate since 1987 and now serves as Senate Majority Leader.

They can't hold a candle to Sarah Barracuda.

  16. Back to the original editorial: "Maybe it's because Palin stands for something. Maybe it's her clear and decisive values about what's good and what isn't, and that she cuts to the chase. Maybe it's her passion." What nonsense. Sarah Palin is a political disaster.

I never thought I'd see the Republicans brought as low as they are now. If Sarah Palin emerges as a leader of the GOP, they will go even lower.

The GOP's position is so dire, IMO, that it is possibly heading for destruction, perhaps heralding the emergence of a powerful Libertarian Party.

  17. gunowners said, "My own personal opinion is that if you do not stay well informed and yet you vote, you are not doing your patriotic duty as a citizen."

Do you have any idea how many people voted for Obama just because Ashton Kutcher and P-diddy told them to? I've had conversations with Obama voters that didn't know the first thing about the biggest issues facing our country. Let's face it, if there were a very basic litmus test that had to be passed in order to vote, he would not be in office today.

  18. Anybody that listens to Ashton Kutcher and P-diddy doesn't take the time to vote!
