FLASHPOINT:

Tough times for Oscar

Monday, July 13, 2009 | 2:01 a.m.

You have to feel sorry for Mayor Oscar Goodman these days. For the first time in his charmed political life, things aren’t going his way. His anointed candidate for the council lost and now he has to deal with someone — Stavros Anthony — who is not cowed by him. His grand plans for Oscar B. Goodman City Hall are sinking with the economy. And now the mob museum, which would glorify the group that made him a rich man, is beset with legal troubles. All he has left is what he’s always had: The ability to make media seals clap whenever he wants. So he floats nonsense about a potential gubernatorial run as an independent and blusters about the Culinary Union’s evil ways and the media devour it. Talk, as always, comes cheap for His Honor.
