Temperatures not breaking records
Saturday, July 11, 2009 | 11:20 a.m.
Temperatures are expected to continue to rise in the Las Vegas Valley over the next week.
The National Weather Service expects a high temperature of 106 degrees today, the same as yesterday’s high.
That is still well below the record 116 degrees the area saw on this day in 1959, but it is slightly above the average 104-degree temperature.
The weather service said there could be isolated showers and thunderstorms in Clark County throughout the day, especially in high elevations, but no major storms are expected to hit the valley this weekend.
The weather service expects little cloud cover as temperatures remain above average through the coming week.
Sunday is expected to see a high of 109 degrees, and temperatures could reach 111 degrees on Tuesday, the service said.
A fire weather watch has been issued for Sunday in Esmeralda County and parts of Nye County, northeast of Las Vegas, where higher winds raise the risk of wildfires.
