Accident location
Metro Police are investigating a collision in which a 55-year-old woman was struck by a car while walking on a northwest Las Vegas sidewalk this morning.
At about 7:47 a.m., Beverly Gross, of Las Vegas, was walking southbound on the west sidewalk of Rainbow Boulevard near its intersection with Light Breeze Drive when a 2004 Volkswagen Beetle driven by Martha Aceto, 39, of Las Vegas, struck her, police said. The intersection is east of U.S. 95 and south of Cheyenne Avenue.
The Volkswagen, which was southbound on Rainbow in the right of two travel lanes, failed to maintain its lane, authorities said, then drifted west and struck the curb. After hitting the curb, it traveled south along the sidewalk and struck Gross before it stopped, police said.
Gross was taken to University Medical Center where she was admitted with critical injuries. Aceto and a 7-year-old boy who was in the car with her were uninjured, police said.
The accident remains under investigation.

Every day someone get run over in this town. We need sidewalks with 9" high concrete wall and set the bus stops back away from the street. When are all the powers that be gonna realize most of the drivers have been drinking or taking prescriptions. They need to do a better job of protecting the little guy.
geeze dont walk in vegas.... bet ya the driver was screwing with a cell phone.... either that or the casinos are offer comp points for every pedestrian you hit
I drove passed this accident right after it had happened this morning and from what I could see it was not an 55 year old. It looked like a young boy.. I am not sure excatly but I did see the person laying on the street and as soon as i was driving passed the ambulance showed up..
humm it was not a boy its a lady like it says on the news. She works with us at goodwill and we are asking for support and we need to pray for her.
she's a really nice person, and there's a lot of people that needs her and she has more years to live.
Please EVERYBODY be carefull of how u drive!
she was walking on the sidewalk and what did that car had to do over the sidewalk..?
this news hurt everybody...we need her with us..help us praying.
its hard to see someone you care for one day very happy and the next day on our way to work to know that you may not see her again.
So sad to hear about this terrible accident. I knew Beverly for the last 2 years, met her at goodwill. She was a very sweet woman with a big heart. She always remembered my family and I and greeted my son with a smile and hello. I first met her when I was pregnant and she was never too busy to stop and talk- see how I was doing. She called me "Big Mama" and my boyfriend and I just laughed! She touched our hearts and we will never forget her kind words. My thoughts and prayers are with her children and grandchildren. She will be missed.
