Motorcyclist killed
A 24-year-old Las Vegas man was killed early this morning in a motorcycle accident at Oakey Boulevard and Westwind Road, according to Metro police.
The man, who has not yet been identified pending notification of relatives, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident by responding medical personnel, police said.
Evidence at the scene and witness statements indicated the motorcycle was travelling west about 12:39 a.m. today on Oakey Boulevard at a high rate of speed, police said. The motorcyclist lost control and struck a street light pole on the northwest corner of Oakey and Westwind, police said.
The light pole was broken off at its base and the motorcycle continued west and hit a block wall. The man was ejected from the motorcycle and came to rest west of the intersection, officers said.
Police said excessive speed appears to be the cause of the collision, which is the 50th traffic fatality this year in the Las Vegas area.
The collision remains under investigation, police said.

Once again a tragedy that could have easily been avoided. Sadly, the Sun could keep a template of "motorcyclist going too fast dies" because this is becoming daily.
be safe
Wow, this is really gotten out of control. In the past few months, we've seen COUNTLESS deaths on motorcycles in this towns.
But it appears yet once again we had a "cool rider", just thank God the rider didn't injure anyone else. One of these days of these speed racers is going to have their bike go out of control and hit some kid, then maybe we'll see more people up in arms about it.
