LETTER TO THE EDITOR:
Untapped revenue sources all over town
Sunday, July 5, 2009 | 2:02 a.m.
Day after day I read in the paper and see on television news Nevada’s tales of woe over lack of revenue.
And day after day I see vehicles in my neighborhood with out-of-state plates. We moved here in July 2007, went to the Department of Motor Vehicles within one week and were told that it is the law in Nevada to register your car within one month of moving here.
So we are now getting ready to write our third check to the state for our car registration and some people in the Las Vegas Valley continue to drive around with out-of-state license plates on their cars.
What a slap in the face!
What is the point of having a law and not having any enforcement?
Every day one can drive the streets of Las Vegas and see out-of-state plates on cars far away from the Strip, parked in house driveways, in apartment-assigned spaces, at places of employment — and yet all those people, who owe that uncollected revenue, continue to stick their noses up at the rest of us, who did what the law said we were supposed to do.
California has a link on its DMV Web site where you can report this kind of illegal activity (yes, it is illegal), and yet Nevada continues to complain that it doesn’t have any money while not doing anything about this.

Hey uddeboda >>>>> How do you enjoy riding a bicycle everyday in Sweden! I mean not everybody has enough money to drive a saab.
No one from California leaves their plates on if they can switch to Nevada plates. They have raised their registration cost to the same as property tax on every vehicle. Used cars cost from a few hundred a year to a thousand a year. Now Nevada plates all over California is a much better tax dodge.
Case in point: I worked with a woman who moved here from Utah. After a period of one year her Utah tags were up for renewal. She called the DMV to find out what the new fee would be here in Nevada. She was quoted that it would be about $900, because she had taken up residence here a year ago and fines were attached to her tags. She didn't want to pay that much money so she contacted a friend in Utah and renewed her tags through Utah.
New residents can find a way to avoid the high vehicle rates here in Nevada. That's all inclusive of the auto insurance rates as well.
POWERPLAY: Have you ever traveled outside Las Vegas. Read a book!
Don't worry they will be leaving soon
