Fatality

A 30-year-old Las Vegas motorcyclist is dead after a collision at 2:47 a.m. on Durango Drive near University Avenue, Metro Police said.

The accident happened when the driver of a 2006 Vespa motorcycle, whose identity is being withheld until the next of kin can be notified, crossed from the far right lane into the far left lane and into the path of a 2008 Chevy Malibu being driven by John Spielberg of Las Vegas, reports said.

The Chevy struck the Vespa on the left side. The motorcyclist was taken to Spring Valley Hospital where he was pronounced dead by medical personnel, reports said.

Spielberg is not facing any charges, according to detective Dennis Magill.

This is the 49th traffic fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction.

  1. RIP... BOTH motorcyclists and car and truck drivers NEED TO TAKE THEIR HEAD FROM THEIR NETHER REGIONS AND USE IT AND PAY ATTENTION....TOO MANY PEOPLE INATTENTIVE... THE CELL PHONE CAN WAIT 99% OF THE TIME NO ONE IS TALKING ABOUT ANYTHING IMPORTANT

  2. CUT OUT JUST DOWN RIGHT DUMB DANGEROUS DRIVING ALL TOGETHER

  3. A Vespa is a scooter, not a motorcycle. Therefore the Scooterist is not required to have a motorcycle license, wear a helmet, or have insurance. Why is this legal???

  4. vespa vs. car = vespa is going to lose.

  5. Any Vespa or other scooter brand that has a motor in excess of 50cc is a motorcycle under the law, and requires a license, registration and insurance.

  6. MAG - this accident was NOT the fault of the driver in the Malibu. Read the story again. Looks like the Vespa driver was inattentive since he didn't look to see if he was going to be in the path of another vehicle. Don't blame motorcycle/scooter accidents on cars and trucks.

  7. the vespa driver had a one year old daughter that i am now raising alone... you should be more sensitive. obviously riding a bike is dangerous. but maybe he worked a 12 hour day and had to swerve to miss someone else acting a fool...
