LETTER TO THE EDITOR:
Nation moving away from principles
Saturday, July 4, 2009 | 2:02 a.m.
I felt compelled to respond to David Sullivan’s Tuesday letter to the editor in the Las Vegas Sun headlined “Obama should let go of one noble intention.”
Mr. Sullivan chastises the Republican Party for being “in bed” with the insurance, banking, pharmaceutical and energy industries. Pardon me, but isn’t this the exact thing the liberal Democratic Party is doing?
It has, in fact, taken this entire issue one step further, in that some parts of these industries are now, for the most part, owned by the U.S. government. Would you call this a Democratic or socialistic government at work?
In addition, the liberal Democratic Party is leading our nation to the brink of financial ruin. Why is this possible? It is the result of dictatorial positions taken by unions, environmentalists and all other fringe groups to which the Democratic Party is now deeply indebted.
The only common ground President Barack Obama and his administration know is under their feet, as evidenced by all of the nontransparency going on in the current administration.
Is there any doubt which party is the most detrimental to the continuation of our present form of government?

What was that about getting the lobbyist out of Washington DC?
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/070...
Washington Post publisher Katharine Weymouth admitted plans for an exclusive "salon" at her home where for as much as $250,000, the Post offered lobbyists and association executives off-the-record access to "those powerful few" --Obama administration officials, members of Congress, and the paper's own reporters and editors.
"salons" must refer to the fact that the meeting participants are only skin deep on the subject.
It would be nice to have a party of common sense and balance, but as long as people vote on the basis of ideology and wishful thinking, it's not going to happen.
What are the principles that you think the Republicans represent? To me, that party represents moving farther and farther toward a society run by aristocrats, where everyone else is simply exploited by the wealthy. It also represents the sleazy move of getting religious zealots to vote for you by mouthing the right phrases, like "family values" and "pro life," even though the party's agenda is economic, not moral - the aristocracy agenda. Maybe if the Republican Party managed to stand for the rights of all Americans, for a healthy future instead of a greedy present, and for a broader prosperity instead of an elite, untouchable class, they would win more votes.
gunowners4obama......
You hit the nail on the head. Your statement "that party (Republican) represents moving farther and farther toward a society run by aristocrats, where everyone is exploited by the wealthY" is 100% true.
I don't look for the GOP to be back in control until they move closer to the middle of the road (moderate agenda...) and quit becoming the party of the elite... The present GOP is run by an elite group of old rich white guys....
Many of those who generally vote for the GOP got their lunch handed to them this past November, and yet they haven't as yet figured out why they were taken to the cleaners...
Some of that group actually believe that the party agenda wasn't far enough to the right..... Other wise they would have won......
That kind of thinking will keep the Republicans on the side-line for a long, long time....
