Clouds, chance of thunderstorms move east of Las Vegas

Friday, July 3, 2009 | 6:54 a.m.

As the Fourth of July holiday weekend begins for many people today, clouds and a chance of thunderstorms move east of the Las Vegas Valley today.

The air will begin gradually drying out and temperatures will warm up to normal this weekend, reaching lower to mid 100s. Today the temperature should be 101 to 104 degrees.

The National Weather Service said the best chance of seeing any showers or thunderstorms develop will be east and north of Las Vegas today, including the mountains.

For the Fourth on Saturday, the daytime high could reach 104 degrees.

Then by Sunday, drier air arrives on southwest winds, which could reach speeds of 10 to 20 mph.

Monday and Tuesday will continue to be warm and breezy, but cooler temperatures in the low to mid 90s may return by Wednesday.
