Letter to the editor:

Climate change lies threaten freedom

Thursday, July 2, 2009 | 2:02 a.m.

Regarding Paul Krugman’s commentary in Tuesday’s Las Vegas Sun, “Politics over the planet”:

So, according to The New York Times’ Krugman, anyone challenging his dogma of global warming is guilty of treason against the Earth.

If the Krugmans of this world haven’t suckered you completely into believing their humbug, you could google “global cooling” and see what’s there. If, after you have read some of the information about the Earth’s millions of years of climate change, you still want to be a True Believer and worship at the Krugman/eco-zealot altar, that’s fine. At least you will have exercised your intellect and come to your own conclusion.

Czech Republic President Vaclav Klaus probably has the clearest insight into the climate change fanatics’ real agenda. His understanding comes from growing up in the poverty, oppression and human degradation of a statist society where the so-called common good transcends the individual.

He asks, “What is endangered, climate or freedom?” His answer: “It’s our freedom … and our prosperity.” He says the global warming exponents believe in their right to sacrifice the man and his freedom in order to achieve their goals, all the while maximizing their own power, prestige, careers and income.

Look around. How are Krugman and the ecos doing? How are you and your fellow citizens doing?

Treason? It seems to me it is Krugman and his ilk who are guilty of treason — against humanity.

  1. Paul Krugman is a WACK JOB just watching this idiot on tv just makes you shake your head! But then again anybody who is associated with the new york times is a SOCIALIST LOSER ANYWAY. That rag of a paper is losing thousands of readers every month who have grown tired of all there left wing bull#hit.

  2. Let me see,
Who to believe? A Nobel Peace Prize winning economist or something calling itself "POWERPLAY"?
A Princeton professor or Knight Allen spouting nonsense about "treason"? I think I will stick with the sane people.

  3. Climate change is not occuring? It's a political plot to destroy America? Some scientists have made this stuff up...oh, really?

Ask the Polar Bears! Visit the coral reefs of the Caribbean and South Pacific and see for yourself the death of these great reefs! Visit the arctic and antarctic ice sheets and see them melting before your eyes at a frightening rate...visit mountain glaciers and see the same thing...

Wake up America...You believe and worship Michael Jackson but you are totally imebecillic and ignore scientific research facts...

All of the doubt, confusion and myths about global warming are the direct result of the anti-science G.W. Bush administration that did its best to styme true, legititimate and in depth research results on this problem. His zeal for religous fervor, not science is the result we are, and will live with....

In twnety years Lake Mead will have all but disappearaed and this valley will be a gigantic, expensive 'Ghostg Town'...then you will believe it...

  4. So, all I have to do is go to Google and look at the first site that comes along, and that should be considered gospel truth? It's good to know that your intellectual filtering capabilities are so up to speed.

  5. POWERPLAY: Where do you get your news? The "Skinhead Gazette".

  6. vsestini,

Dito to what you have written. Good stuff!!!

  7. I agree with Knight Allen.

The polar bears are doing fine. Don't repeat the nonsense you hear in the propaganda.

Same goes for coral reefs. Those that are in trouble have a lot to do with local fishermen "fishing with dynamite".

Lake Mead will disappear. Yeah it might. But that's got a lot more to do with the fact that this artificial lake sits on sand that is more porous than toilet paper. It has far less to do with climate. And that bit that you can blame on climate --- guess what? There have been very dry periods in the past in the Southwest --- so dry that entire civilizations have completely disappeared. But what's that got to do with CO2?

Nobel Peace Prize winning economist? Please does this make him an expert on the climate? Can he repair my car? Pretty stupid comparison.

He can't even get it right on the economy --- all that money he supports spending on "Stimulus" packages?

Money down the toilet just like the water flushed into the water table around poor old Lake Mead.

  8. Just so you know where I am coming from, I have every respect for those who are trying to save our planet.

My problem with Anthropogenic Global Warming is that we are giving so much of our time and energy to something that will prove IMO to be a fad, that we fail to see that our planet and all of the life it supports ARE BEING DECIMATED.

Please understand how gravely dangerous our single-minded focus on AGW is. We start to forget about all the grievously harmful activities that go on all the time that are killing Earth and its biodiversity.

Climate Change does not rank in the top 100 problems that our Earth faces!!!

Just for the sakes of the issues of deforestation of our land masses and destruction of our oceans and its life, you must begin to focus on these other activities. They will not wait!

By the time we realize we have been sidelined and hoodwinked into worrying about a non-issue, those life forms and environments we COULD have saved WILL BE GONE for good.

Look at Bush Meat and the destruction of life forms in African jungles.

Look at fishing with Cyanide and Dynamite for heaven's sake!!!

    Just a small sampling:

    http://books.google.ca/books?id=6m84KbWf...

    http://books.google.ca/books?id=j5yfuOlW...

PLEASE PEOPLE, WAKE UP, IF NOT FOR THE PLANET'S SAKE (the only home planet we have) THEN AT LEAST FOR YOUR OWN SAKE AND FOR THAT OF YOUR CHILDREN.

The Environmental Movement has been hijacked by AGW lunatics!!!

Let's have some sanity and balance, please, before it is "Game Over".

  9. Ok, let's get this straight. Extinction is a natural consequence of evolution. So what if the polar bears or corals go extinct? That is going to happen anyway!! We will ALL go extinct as a species sooner or later. And as that happens new species will come along that can thrive in the existing conditions. It is a logical contradiction to accept evolution and at the same time be a member of the "Save the (insert favorite animal)" clubs.

It makes far more sense to do that which is best for our descendents. That means giving them the means for the best possible lifestyle, and not burdening them with impossible debts that will lead to warfare on a scale we can't even imagine.

  10. I am so tired of non-believers about climate change saying that it is natural. Everyone time in the past when the climate changes, something happens, like a comet blowing up in our atmosphere, or a meteorite clashing into the earth, or volcanoes blowing up. Otherwise, the climate change is over 100's of years. It has never happened this fast.

Anyone with any common sense would know that since the Industrial Revolution we have pumped so much into our ulterior thin atmosphere that it can't handle it anymore.

  11. Those who ignore the facts are doomed to live with them. Most Americans are ignorant of science, methods of scientific research, data collection & analysis.

By all means let the Polar Bears die out, kill off the whales because they mean nothing to most Americans anyway, don't worry about extinction of any major animal be it Tiger, Elephant or a rodent. They are not interrelated to humans in any way and they do nothing for us...soooo, let all die off. Man can live alone with any and all of them. We get our food off of grocery shelves and out of packages and cans... we don't need animals. In fact we don't really need plants because we can do almost everything with plastic....

Ignorance of basic principles of science, especially biology and ecology will eventually kill us all.... HELL global warming has been going on for millenia so its no big deal ... bring it on !

  12. All this discussion points out one thing: America needs our own scientific assessment of global warming -- a 'climate truth commission'. I am a Democrat who for the past 20 years believed global warming was caused by CO2. But now after reading the UN climate reports I suspect the fix was in. The UN reports contain much good science, but in the end, the UN is a political organization where politics trumps science. We in the United States need our own objective, transparent climate commission to think through global warming. ...before we burden our economy with CO2 taxes.

  13. The scientific community is not in agreement on climate change. There are many qualified climate change dissenters but they never get heard because their position is not in fashion. They rarely get invited to serve on discussion panels while many believers who do are not qualified in the field. Most of the qualified dissenters are usually branded with the "in the oil companies pocket" line. When we hear of the Nobel Prize given to the "great" Al Gore we do not hear that he was a co-recipient of that prize. The other guy, who's name is John Christy, refused his portion of the award. Unlike Al Gore who's only claim to fame is hack politician, John Christy is a PHD in Atmospheric Science. He is also a climate change non-believer. Do a search on "John Christy global warming" to read what the other side has to say. There are more out there that believe as he does but they do not get the press they and us deserve. Nor do we hear about the dissenters being shouted down with innuendo and false charges rather than actual facts.

  14. A.Viirlaid.
So you agree with the writer of this article, and also the Society of Cuckoo Sceptics.

There are 10s of thousands of dedicated scientists whos only job is to evaluate the reportings of further 10s of thousands of scientists, many from the USA, who say that the global climate is changing, yet you believe in what a single person has to say, the Pres of the Czeck Rep. If so, then you ARE living in cuckoo land. Like so many Americans, who still do not believe that climate change is happening, all I can say, is that you start reading reliable information, not the quacky info that you are finding on the internet. Global temperatures are rising, causing both drought and violent storms. Glaciers are melting worldwide, but that is of little interest to you living in Vegas, a typical reply is (who cares a sh#t about the glaciers), the ice sheets on Greenland and the Antarctic are melting at rates which only happened during the previous upwarming of the planet, long before mankind ever set his foot on the planet. Sea levels rose during that period by over 120 meters, dont worry New York, help is on the way????
Like you quote, Climate Change does not rank in the top 100 problems that the earth faces, what you really meant to say was that the "USA" does not rank climate change as a problem.
Your final sentence says it all, you are belonging to the insane who still believe that climate change is not happening.

  15. Rmoen,
""All this discussion points out one thing: America needs our own scientific assessment of global warming -- a 'climate truth commission'""

""But now after reading the UN climate reports I suspect the fix was in.""

""We in the United States need our own objective, transparent climate commission to think through global warming. ...before we burden our economy with CO2 taxes""

Here we have 3 statements to show the "mindthought" of the average American, who still believes that the UN is a waste of space, and that the future of the world should be left for the USA to decide upon. How naiev and arrogant cant you get. The USA alone has, and is still polluting the atmosphere more than any other industrial nation per capita, yet still likes to put the blame on other nations. ""Any attempt to reduce CO2 emissions in the USA will bring only ruin to the worlds gteatest nation""

What a load of bull sh#t, and you know it.

  16. global warming, oops, sorry, climate change, oops sorry, environmental appeasement, oops sorry, or whatever the PC crowd believes is garbage.

It is the same as all the other liberal engineering programs that have come down the pike. For every scientist that thinks it exists another scientist says it is a scam.

I am all for saving the planet but I am more concerned with keeping lunatic liberal whack jobs from running my life.

Obama owes too many favors to properly govern; for that matter so do all the politicians. They cow-tow to all the campaign donations. Right now the environmental whacko's are cheering him, what about the common folk who will bear the burden.

I don't know anybody who won't be effected, but at the same time I don't know anybody who thinks such draconian measures will work.

How about banning bottled water? This is more a problem than stupid global warming or whatever name you give it.

  17. Just to let you know that I havent forgotten you all in Nevada.

    Flora and Fauna of Nevada

    Flora and Fauna
The natural life is incredibly varied. Flora include sagebrush and... well, that's just about it. The whole place is full of sagebrush. 110,567 square miles of Sagebrush and prostitutes. Not exactly beautiful. Plus, all the animals are pimps, coyotes and other desert creatures which will probably kill you. In Las Vegas, you can also find mentally retarded tourists (counting as fauna) who've been sent there by mistake and think they're at Disneyland.

  18. uddeboda your post at 7/2/09 at 11:50 p.m. made me laugh --- thanks for the chuckle.

But seriously you cannot be unaware of the thousands of serious scientists who are also 'sceptics'.

    Please see http://www.climatesceptics.com.au/austra...

    Also please see http://climatescience.blogspot.com/2008/...

    And

And as if that were not enough please see the coming new ice age at

  19. uddeboda, another very reputable site for you to check up on is

    http://www.co2science.org/

You only have to scroll down to the bottom to get the latest posts and news.

Also please keep tabs on a site that shows a picture of the sunspots on the sun --- this is important for seeing how the output of the sun varies over time:

    http://www.spaceweather.com/

The longer we go without significant sunspots coming back, the higher is the risk of a new "Little Ice Age".

The link to the Aussi site was interesting to say the least. They are experiencing a 7 year drought in the populus SE corner, plagued by wildfires that make the California ones look like a BBQ, yet the still have sceptics who care see the wood for the trees, the only problems are there are not so many trees left standing. I do believe that Melbourne and Sydney are on very strict water rationing, something like 7 hrs a day.

  21. It is not as bad as the popular press makes out.

    Please see http://news.morningstar.com/newsnet/View...

22 million tons of wheat in a drought year?

That is not likely in Australia.

When Australia has a drought, wheat production typically is around 10 million tons.

Please see quote "In the drought year of 2002/03 Australian wheat production was only 10.1 million tonnes," at site
