Former Nye County commissioner convicted of bribery
Wednesday, July 1, 2009 | 5:02 p.m.
Peter Liakopoulus, a former Nye County commissioner, was found guilty Wednesday in Nevada District Court of bribery and of gross misdemeanor offenses.
Bribery is a felony, while offering a reward for appointment and grafting by a public officer are gross misdemeanors, Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto said. The offenses took place in 2007.
Liakopoulos was alleged to have asked Pahrump Town Board Member Laurayne Murray to vote to appoint and persuade other town board members to appoint his wife, Jenny Liakopoulos, as curator for the Pahrump Veterans Memorial, according to criminal information filed by Chief Deputy Attorney General Conrad Hafen.
In return, Peter Liakopoulos promised to vote in favor of a Nye County sales tax increase.
The Pahrump Town Board did not vote to appoint Jenny Liakopoulos to the non-paid, volunteer position of curator. In December 2007, when the sales tax issue came before the Nye County Commission, it was defeated by a 3 to 2 vote with Peter Liakopoulos voting against the measure.
Sentencing for Liakopoulos will occur by the Fifth Judicial District Court in Pahrump at 9 a.m. Aug. 24.

I always proclaimed when they ran the mob out, they just transcended into Politicians.
Totally agree Steve, and remember, harry Reid is the biggest of them all.
maybe the mob has secretly taken over the brains of commenters.
There goes the right wing nut job neiman. He will never blame a corrupt Republican for their sins. How convenient he failed to mention Ensign, and lets not forget he was a Bush supporter to the end. So much for his credibility.
