In addition to Gov. Jim Gibbons, Chrissy Mazzeo has sued Metro Police and former Clark County Sheriff Bill Young, alleging a cover-up of the governor’s alleged assault of the then-cocktail waitress.

Lawyers for Gov. Jim Gibbons today filed a motion to dismiss Chrissy Mazzeo's federal civil rights lawsuit against the governor.

The suit stems from an October 2006 late-night encounter between Gibbons and Mazzeo outside a Las Vegas restaurant in which she alleged the governor, while a candidate, assaulted her.

A Metro Police investigation cleared Gibbons of wrongdoing. But Mazzeo, a single mother and a former cocktail waitress, hired Las Vegas attorney Robert Kossack to file the suit this past October, alleging a wide-ranging police cover-up.

In their motion to dismiss, attorneys Pat Lundvall and Carla Higginbotham called Mazzeo's claims against Gibbons and the other defendants "ludicrous" and said the thrust of the complaint appeared to be aimed at "disparaging the reputation and character" of the governor.

The lawyers argued that the suit failed to state any legitimate legal claims against Gibbons.

Former Sheriff Bill Young, political strategist Sig Rogich and Don Campbell, the lawyer who help Gibbons fend off criminal charges over the encounter with Mazzeo, also are defendants in the suit.
