The North Las Vegas Police Department today completed its investigation into the second drowning of a toddler in a backyard swimming pool and ruled the death an accident.
There was not enough evidence to build a criminal case to send to District Attorney David Roger, police department spokeswoman Chrissie Coon said.
The second toddler in a week to die after being pulled from a backyard swimming pool was identified as 2-year-old Emmanuel Alfredo Macedo of North Las Vegas, the Clark County coroner's office said.
North Las Vegas police and paramedics were called at about 3:14 p.m. Monday to the 3100 block of Van Der Meer Street just south of Cheyenne Avenue after the boy was pulled from a pool, Coon said. The child was taken to North Vista Hospital, where he later died.
On Jan. 13, an 18-month-old boy, Jordan Williams, drowned in a hot tub next to a swimming pool in the backyard of his day care center at 4731 Gunlock Circle in North Las Vegas. Another 3-year-old boy was pulled from the hot tub, but survived.
The district attorney's office Tuesday said it would not prosecute the day care center's owner.
