Valley senior quarterback Kerwynn Williams, who rushed for over 1,600 yards this season, has been named as one of 50 Old Spice Red Zone Players of the Year.
Players are nominated by coaches and selected by USA Today, which will run a full list of winners next week. The award is based on how players performed in the red zone.
"He scored 26 touchdowns for us, three two-point conversions and two touchdowns in overtime - that's pretty good," said Vikings coach John Elwell. "He ran the offense, he called audibles when he needed to. He's obviously very quick and has great vision, but he's also got an accurate arm. He's a triple threat guy, can do it all."
His turned in his best performance of the year in a 32-26 victory over Chaparral on Oct. 10 where he rushed for 237 yards and four touchdowns. He broke the 200 mark again two weeks later in a 34-31 win over Coronado with 242 rushing yards and three touchdowns.
Williams has been in contact with Utah, Utah State, Nevada, Weber State, Idaho State and received an offer from South Dakota State. Williams plans on studying engineering and has a 3.8 GPA at Valley.
"He wants to think over his options," Elwell said. "His biggest thing is he wants to go get his degree in engineering. He's a great student, very grounded."
