The Clark County District Attorney's office ruled Tuesday that the drowning of 18-month-old Jordan Williams was accidental after the toddler drowned in a hot tub on Jan. 13.
Williams and a 3-year-old boy who survived the incident in a spa adjoining an in-ground pool at a North Las Vegas home-based day care, Marisela's Family Day Care Center, were found by North Las Vegas Police and emergency medical paramedics. Williams was found at the bottom of the hot tub.
Williams was pronounced dead at a local hospital. The 3-year-old boy was treated and survived.
Marisela Carvajal said she was watching three children at the time of the drowning, and the children were playing in a gated outdoor area. She said she went to the bathroom, then to the kitchen for a drink. While she was in the kitchen, she told police, she couldn't hear the children. Then she realized the gate to the pool was open and discovered the children in the hot tub.
The day care center had passed all inspections through 2008. However, it will not be allowed to reopen until North Las Vegas Business License officials complete an investigation at the home.
