Following a national trend, the teenage birth rate in Nevada shot up in 2006 to nearly 56 per 1,000 women ages 15 to 19, according to data released this month by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Nationally the birth rate for this segment of the population had been on the decline since 1991; in Nevada, the 2006 rate is a five-year high and our highest rank compared with the rest of the United States since 1998.

Why is it that the further North you go, the lower the birth rate? Are females more fertile in hot weather? And the answer is:
1. Demographics
2. Education
'Nuff said...
I'm surprised that California doesn't have higher numbers.
I would like this paper to crunch the demographics and (tell me it isn't so) that Hispanic teens are leading the charge.
And public opinion thinks the LDS are perverts.
"...public opinion thinks the LDS are perverts."
Never heard that. Which public are you referring to? Certainly not the American public. Maybe just you think that.
It's been my experience that the LDS church is puritanical and likes to foist it's morality issues on those outside the church as well.
Unless you are referring to the FLDS, which is a completely different animal, and fits your description of public opinion much better.
I stand corrected. I'd, also like to compliment you how you make your points.
"And public opinion thinks the LDS (FLDS) is perverted," was to punctuated the irony of how acceptable, and, I dare say, encouraged, it is for very young girls to become pregnant, for instance, in the Hispanic culture.
I think it is true that they encourage that. It's part of their religious beliefs to create a large family so as to have a large family for themselves in heaven. Perhaps some of the Mormons who read this can add some detail, but I believe that to be the gist of it. So with that little tidbit in mind, got to start early right? I.E young.
However, at least from my experience, young Mormons marry young Mormons and they are all legal age. I have no issues with that. Not so FLDS. Yikes!
Thanks for the compliment.
