Down economy prompts cancellation of Summerlin Art Festival

The economic downturn has taken its toll on the Nevada art community.

The Howard Hughes Corporation, developer of the Summerlin planned community in western Las Vegas, has announced the Summerlin Art Festival has been cancelled for this year because of the slow economy.

This was to be the eighth year of the festival held each September. Past years featured two components: La Strada dell’Arte, a street painting festival, and Celebration of the Arts, an outdoor art show with more than 125 artists and craftsmen.

In a letter sent to supporters, Howard Hughes Marketing Director Nikkole Liesse said the event should resume in 2010 if the economy rebounds.
