LETTER TO THE EDITOR:
Talking heads who put politics before country
Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009 | 2:06 a.m.
The mouthpiece of the ultra-conservatives, Rush Limbaugh, showed his true colors when he said, “I hope he (Obama) fails.”
Here our nation is heading down the slippery slope to utter despair. Wall Street and the banking industry have our country on the road to bankruptcy. The USA’s financial crisis has now exploded into a global financial crisis. Under President George W. Bush, the nation borrowed and spent its way deeper in debt, because of his failed stewardship. The ex-president had selected neo-cons and hard-line conservatives for advisers and confidants. Unemployment is high and jobs are disappearing at a rate never dreamed of since the Great Depression. Countless families are without food and shelter as husbands and fathers, without jobs, can no longer provide food, shelter and the bare necessities.
Those are the facts. Now with a new president and visions of hope, the ultra-conservative talk-show hosts are praying that Barack Obama and his administration will fail. Where is their love of country? Where is their desire for a better America? They talk of a great nation but give way to raw politics. They would rather see the nation go down the tubes than see their opponent succeed. They have no compassion, no thought for anyone but those of their ideological political ilk. One can only conclude that Rush Limbaugh and those of his bent do not care about America and hence qualify as un-American hate mongers.

It is ironic that those who called others unamerican if they disagreed with ANY of Bush's policies, hope for failure. Your conclusion, sadly, is correct.
Rush Limbaugh is a dysfunctional demagogue that
serves as the mouthpiece of dysfunctional citizens. Those citizens do not have any formal knowledge of how a sovereign government works,
and instead of living like lost souls in a political environment they do not understand,
they attach themselves to a demagogue and feel like they are in the front line of political developments and in the right political direction. Therefore, a demagogue is in affect a
Global Positioned System (GPS) for those who do not know how to reach their [political] destination, as much as GPS in automobiles help the drivers to reach their desired destinations.
Demagogues hold no official positions, as Aristotle said. They simply exercise a peculiar
degree of influence for people who cannot think themselves. And Rush Limbaugh is actually providing them a service while he has become a millionaire doing so.
What is the value of Rush Limbaugh's diatribes and rhetorical chaff? a) Zero, for the citizens who are able to evaluate their government themselves and decide on their own if change and/or reform is needed. b) Brain-waves maintenance for those who cannot - and
that includes congressmen.
And the conclusion. Aristotle said: Demagogues
"demagogues could exercise initiative and determine policy without incurring political responsibility, since it is not their duty to execute the policy." Rush Limbaugh, and other
extremists in the right, therefore, including Dick Cheney, grabbed an ignorant and naive George Bush craving for making history for himself, and turn him into a "Chucky" [the baby vicious character in that movie] that smashed everything uncontrollably. Now the rest of America is picking up the pieces, while Rush Limbaugh takes no responsibility for. He didn't execute any policy. He just initiated the frenetic lobotomy on George Bush's ideology.
Rush Limbaugh still continues his sermons trying to influence his disciples in congress to sabotage Obama's programs. Obama told them -according to reports: "Don't listen to Rush Limbaugh and come here to tell me what to do."
But the marionettes can only do what the string puller commands them to do. Unfortunately for the rest of us, dissent is part of democracy. And as with everything else in life, democracy has its parasites too. Nikos Retsos, retired professor

Rush is so objective that after only one day in office he says about Obama "I hope he fails".
Lovely man. Ego more important than country. He says "I hope Obama fails" which means he hopes we fail, all in the name of Rush being right. Why anyone respects that shallowness is beyond me.
Too bad hatred is such an infectious thing. Were it not for that, Limbaugh, Coulter, Savage, Hannity and O'Reilly would not be successful. They are like the WWF of politics. Mindless rhetoric intended to incite those who think from their emotions. It's a very old and effective formula.
I saw quite a bit of that interview on Fox--call it a fascination with the morbid LOL--and although a part of Limbaugh's POV could be put down to just a difference of opinion and philosophy with Obama and what he represents, a part of it was just plain falsehoods and hate. He's a very disturbed man and it saddens me that he has the audience that he does. I'm divided as to whether POTUS was right in trying to stamp out this fire--and thus put the spotlight on this cigar-chomping fattie--or whether it would have been more powerful to just ignore Limbaugh...
On 1-23-2009 Obama told top GOP leaders "You can't just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done." Obama had invited to the White House to discuss his nearly $1 trillion stimulus package.
Republican got their marching orders directly from the commander in chief.
"Limbaugh, Coulter, Savage, Hannity & O'Reilly".
What does this bunch have in common?
They spew hatred through diatribes filled with vitriol. They constantly mock those who's thought processes take them anywhere left of extreme right. Their dogma is one of hatred & greed funneled through their media outlets like a nasty sort of sorcery. I ME MY. No We, Us, Ours (unless in involves themselves collectively.)
Think about the type of folks who respond to this insidious tactic of the right wing machine.
We know who it is; they respond in these pages daily. There is a profile, and I don't need to spell it out for those who can think for themselves.
p.s... I'm not an Al Franken fan, and I wish he wasn't going to be the next U.S. Senator from Minnesota, but he will forever be a cult hero of mine for writing a book I never had to read:
Rush Limbaugh Is A Big Fat Idiot.
I agree with gmag39 although I think Al Franken will surprise people with how effective a senator he will be. There is one name he left off the list of lunatics on the right, Mark Levine, who may even be crazier than Savage if readers can imagine that!
Michael Savage - "You know what autism is? I'll tell you what autism is, In 99 percent of the cases, it's a brat who hasn't been told to cut the act out. That's what autism is."
This is a man to trust on who is hateful and who isn't? This is a man to trust for anything?
Not in my book. Not at all. This is a man who, like his friends, should shut up and stop hurting people for nothing.
You know why? Limbough, and o'Reilly are sooooo angry it's because they would say things they didn't know to be true as if it were and when it was proving what they said wasn't then it was time to move to the next lie,
Remember how they said Obama was a Muslim, and that is not true, Remember how they said that Al Sharpton,Jess Jackson or Rev. Wright would be officating the inaugeration, Also didn't happen, Remember how we were told that the oath would be done using the koran, Also didn't happen either time.
Here is what I tell people that complain about how things are being done, Run for public office and change what it is that you don't like, Take action, Set the example,
Bottom line you have to do one of three things and thats Either lead, Follow, Or Get out of the way!
Rush said he hopes HIS POLICIES (socialist Marxist, spread the wealth, which were proven not to work) fail.
It's amazing how it's taking out of context, crucifying him.
Democrats wait for government hand outs while conservatives are for less government, less taxes, putting more money in the people's pockets, reward hard work not welfare.
There were 57 million people voting conservatives, I am by no stretch of imagination a republican but I respect the conservatives views without crucifying them for speaking out.
"It's amazing how it's taking out of context, crucifying him."
There is what Obama is doing, then there is Rush's "LABEL" on those things.
Rush wants Obama to fail, but couches it in labels instead of direct attacking him. Cute, clever, but no cigar. Rush practices demagoguery. It's how he makes a living. Make sure the other side fails, no matter the cost. Sad for us that so many listen and adhere without question.
Socialist! Dear bumbes would you not agree that your school system is a social program, and so is the police department, and the fire department, the armies, Social security.
The term spread the wealth was ment as sharing the tax burden, the poor cant pay and the rich wont pay so it is left on the shoulders of the middle class to pay for all. Why is it o.k. for everyone to share what the middle class pays for But when the middle class wants help its given a negative name like Marxist or Social.
The mouthpiece M.O...
Do you think we need to improve and upgrade our national infrastructure?
Most Americans: YES!
Do you think the government should be helping to create jobs for Americans?
Most Americans: YES!
Do you think America should become a socialist country?
Most Americans: NO!
Stupid stupid stupid.
Bumbes: Watch a video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JrSNjHhAA...
Nothing was taken out of context. Rush said "So I shamelessly say no, I want him(Obama)to fail."
Less government - Caused the financial meltdown
Less Taxes - Caused our debt to swell to more than 10 Trillion
More money in your pocket - Inflation took all the gains away plus some
Look at 20 years of history; 3 republican presidents had record deficits and account for 85%++ of our 10 Trillion national debt. 1 democrat president had a balanced budget and brought the national debt down with budget surpluses. Republicans passed the highest tax increases in history on to your children and grandchildren. Republican's economic ideology has been proven a massive failure.
I also have great respect for my fellow human beings, lefty & righty or right down the middle. It's the DEMOGOGUES who INSPIRE HATE that we could do without. They are extremists, and NOTHING Rush says needs to be taken out of context to show exactly what kind of person he is; it's fairly well documented.
Rush Limbaugh has been able to get away with more sh.. than anyone I know. He is forgiven for any negative feedback he says about anyone. His policies are ridiculous to the average American. He doesn't know what it is to struggle with the outrageous salary he is paid. Why does he make this figure when he doesn't really do anything but give his idiot opinion on things he knows nothing about; like working. Anyone as unpatriotic as he is should nopt be paid by any American company. It is an insult to America and Americans. He is a drug addict fat slob with a good scam. That is his success.
I love Rush, the canadian rock & roll band, don't leason to Limbaugh's show but can't help noticing the hatred against this guy, especially on this blog, there's no secret he always is been criticizing the liberals but don't see the reason to call him un-American, un-patriotic or go as far as saying the word "treason".
He is after all just an entertainer, it looks like the context in which he was ostracized by the liberal bias media was when he said he refuses to drink the cool aid, than that he wishes he fail, was the clip on John Steward, who was making him subject of his jokes.
The article talks about Limbaugh not having any compassion, what about the hatred towards him, sputting hatred that he doesn't put the country first, what harm can a talk show do to the country, I wonder.
Neil Peart rocks!
Not to defend Rush but he actually said he wants obama to succeed but his liberal policies to fail. I know that's not what you want to read esp. after all the anti-rush spouting but it is what it is.
Al Franken, are you kidding me. At least Rush never called for the murder of any politicians. Al Franken is an idiot and a criminal.
2112 was a great album, "red barchetta" favorite song.
Rush Limbaugh has officially been culled to the fringe of the herd. A gas-addled windbag.
At the risk of sounding attacking, I think it's side splittingly funny that a story called "Talking heads who put politics before country" has been up for more than a day and a half, and Jim Nance has not commented on it!
Now THAT is funny!
And just because it was called here for and nobody else said it...
