There's no hesitation in Corey Keraly's voice when asked where he ranks himself among the area's young adult bowlers.

"I'd put myself in the top five in high school bowling," he said.

Keraly, a senior at Southeast Career and Technical Academy, wants to see his team make the Sunset Region tournament before he leaves.

"That's my motivation this year to lead the team to the regionals, and I think we can do it," he said.

He's been a four-year bowler for the Roadrunners and started bowling two years before coming to high school.

"It started out just as a hobby and fun thing to go do, but I got better as I progressed and really got into it," he said.

He has a 218 average and has bowled a 268 game and 734 series in a 9-0 win against Del Sol earlier this season.

Assistant coach Lisa Levy, whose been with the team the last four years, said Keraly's been an asset to the team.

"He's been our MVP every year. It's going to be sad without him next year," she said.

As a junior, Keraly competed in the Clark County High School MVP bowling tournament, which determines the area's top individual bowlers. He rolled an 818-series, which had him in 14th place after the first four rounds of qualifying, but was not enough to reach the finals.

"It was a privilege to compete in that and it was a lot of fun. I hope to go back this year and do a lot better," he said.

Bowling is a sport he is passionate about even though there are times people make fun of it.

"They say bowling is not a sport, but they're just mad because they can't bowl," he said.
