Labrador Retrievers are top dog in Las Vegas, AKC says

If you live in Southern Nevada and own a Labrador Retriever, you're not alone.

The American Kennel Club today issued its lists of the most popular AKC-registered breeds in Las Vegas and the nation for 2008, with the Labrador Retriever topping both lists.

This is the 18th consecutive year that labs have led the national list of American purebreds. And, with more than twice as many labs registered last year than any other breed, that breed will be the likely leader for years to come, the AKC said.

The Bulldog returned to the AKC's Top 10 national list for the first time in more than 70 years, ranking No. 8 nationwide and No. 2 in Las Vegas.

Here is the list of the top 10 registered breeds in Las Vegas:

  • 1. Labrador Retriever
  • 2. Bulldog
  • 3. German Shepherd Dog
  • 4. Yorkshire Terrier
  • 5. Poodle
  • 6. Golden Retriever
  • 7. Shih Tzu
  • 8. Dachshund
  • 9. Rottweiler
  • 10. Boxer

    We sure to also check out RESCUE dogs for these breeds in Las Vegas. Give love to a homeless dog and you will be repaid 100 fold.
