Make-A-Wish fundraiser coming to Town Square

A couple thousand residents plan to help make wishes become reality during an event at Town Square this month.

The shopping center will host Kendall Tenney's 8th Annual Run for a Wish 5K race and walk event Jan. 31 to benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern Nevada.

Registration for the event may be completed online at www.snv.wish.org or on site the day of the event beginning at 7:30 a.m.

Registration is $20 for a team and $25 for an individual if done in advance or $40 on the day of the event.

The 5K timed race begins at 9 a.m., and will be followed by the untimed run/walk at 9:20 a.m.

Participants will receive a t-shirt and a giveaway bag that foundation Development Manager Alicia Avance said will be full of coupons for services and goods from event sponsors.

Avance said activities in addition to the race will include face painting, rock wall climbing, balloon art and giveaways from sponsors.

There will also be live music and entertainment, she said.

As for a monetary goal for donations, Avance said "With things the way they are, we're thrilled if we just match everything we did last year."

The 2007 fundraiser was held at Fremont Street and raised $300,000.

Proceeds from the event will go to help grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.

Those not participating in the race may still contribute to the foundation by visiting any Fabulous Freddy's Car Wash between 10 a.m. and noon Jan. 17 and submitting a donation.
