LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Who will have guts to challenge Gibbons?

Sunday, Jan. 11, 2009 | 2:03 a.m.

Every day I open the newspaper to see yet another scare tactic thrown at us about the failing (failed) Nevada economy and what will be cut by the governor to “save” us.

On Friday it was a proposed 6 percent cut in wages for state government employees, including teachers.

When, if ever, will the discussion turn to how to increase revenue instead of the slash and burn tactics being employed?

When will our elected representatives begin to represent us and stop cowering in the face of the governor’s veto power and listening to lobbyists?

Don’t we see enough of this charade called representative government in Washington? Our upcoming legislative session should give a keen view of who is actually representing whom.

  1. I hope every citizen in Nevada is watching and listening to the legislative sessions so you can email or call your legislators and assembly representative to make your views known.

A government by the people doesn't work if the people are not involved.

  2. It's much easier to complain than to "get involved." This is the land of dead-heads.

  3. I am supporting Gibbons.

    I will email my legislators.

We do not need taxes which will cause more of the private employees to lose their jobs, cuts to our pay and cuts to our benefits. We have already paid a high price. It is time for the government sector to kick something in.

  4. I nominate Red Ferret!!!

  5. The Democratic legislative is vote proof they can do what ever they want

Why the big worry about Gibbons?

  6. To: Jfinance 32....I bet you would vote to bring Herbert Hoover back out of the grave as well as Richard Millhouse Nixon !

    vandrew

  7. Vandrew: Only if you vote to bring back Jimmy Carter and LBJ first.

I do not know that much about Hoover except he started the some "make work" programs, as in the "Hoover" dam and such, that FDR continued. He also signed a law that protected American industry from foreign competitors that made goods or raise crops with cheap labor (sounds like an awful like of union Democrats). That caused the depression to be worst.

Nixon was a bad president except it does sound like he was trying very hard to end the war before the Watergate mess broke out.

  8. Jim Gibbons. "As Governor,I will make education my #1 priority." The man actually said that. Yes.
Gym Gybbins, ewe have bin grate fer edge you cashun. Nuvaduh thanx u.
