BART hears another earful on Oakland death
Sun, Jan 11, 2009 (2:54 p.m.)
Several members of the Bay Area Rapid Transit board are holding a meeting in Oakland to help ease tensions surrounding the New Year's Day slaying of an unarmed man by a transit police officer.
Sunday's community meeting is the second BART directors have held since the fatal shooting of 22-year-old Oscar Grant. They heard dozens of people express their frustration and anger over the incident on Thursday.
Prosecutors, Oakland police and BART are still determining why officer Johannes Mehserle shot Grant in a train station.
The 27-year-old Mehserle resigned from the force before his department's internal affairs division could interview him.
Alameda County District Attorney Tom Orloff says he will decide within two weeks whether to bring criminal charges.
