Traces of rain, snow falling in western Las Vegas

Monday, Jan. 5, 2009 | 5:23 p.m.

Light rain and snow showers formed over the Spring Mountains and into western portions of the Las Vegas Valley this afternoon, but are expected to deliver only a trace to very light amounts of precipitation, the National Weather Service said.

The precipitation formed over the Spring Mountains about 4 p.m., then shifted into the valley, prompting the weather service to issue a short-term forecast.

At 5 p.m., the temperature in the Las Vegas Valley, recorded at McCarran International Airport, was 40 degrees. The low expected tonight is 35 degrees.

Tuesday's high temperature is expected to be near 56 degrees with a low in the mid-30s overnight.
