Man killed in three-car crash identified

Monday, Jan. 5, 2009 | 11:16 a.m.

The 75-year-old man killed in a three-car crash Wednesday morning at East Flamingo and South Sandhill roads has been identified as William Helfrich of Las Vegas, the Clark County coroner's office said.

A cause of death has not been released by the coroner.

Two others injured in the crash have been identified as 43-year-old Tim Nicothodes of Las Vegas and 26-year-old Nicole Kodba of Las Vegas, Metro Police said. Both Nicothodes and Kodba suffered minor injuries.

Police said the crash occurred at 8:01 a.m., when Helfrich was traveling east on Flamingo at Sandhill in a 2000 Dodge Dakota and went through a red light, striking Nicothodes' 2008 Ford F350, which had a green light and was going south on Sandhill, police said.

The Dodge struck the right front of Nicothodes' vehicle, sending both vehicles in a southeast direction, police said.

The Dodge then went into private property on the southeast corner, striking the third vehicle, Kodba's 2007 Hnda Accord, which was in the Starbucks drive-through lane.

The driver of the Dodge was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Nicothodes was taken to Sunrise Hospital with minor injuries, police said.

This collision was the 113th traffic-related fatality in Metro Police's jurisdiction in 2008.
