Chimney fire does $100,000 in damage to home

A chimney fire caused about $100,000 in damage to a home Thursday night in the western Las Vegas Valley.

Las Vegas Fire and Rescue responded to the blaze at 10:12 p.m. at 8801 Robinson Ridge Drive, which is at the Foothills Country Club near the intersection of Charleston Boulevard and Durango Drive. Investigators said eight people were inside the home and noticed embers coming into the fireplace from above.

The occupants of the home tried to extinguish the blaze with a fire extinguisher, but the fire had extended into the home's attic, firefighters said.

Flames and smoke were showing from the roof of the stucco home when firefighters arrived. No one was injured.

Fire damage was contained to the chimney and attic. Part of the home also sustained minor smoke damage, firefighters said.
