Letter to the editor:

Teachers are not tourists’ concern

Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009 | 2:04 a.m.

So legislators and teachers want non-Nevadans to pay for teachers’ salaries via the hotel room tax. Sounds like taxation without representation to me — and I thought we had settled that with the Boston Tea Party!

There is an alternate solution, of course — let the non-Nevadans vote in Nevada elections! How long would it take to have a Nevada income tax, increased casino tax, etc.? Be careful what you ask for!

Discussion: 3 comments so far…

  1. If you want to have the luxury of great shows, hotels and 24 hr gaming this is your cost. Perhaps I could buy things in Utah without paying all the taxes like gas tax, sales tax etc., not likely!

  2. The author has a pretty warped version of taxation. These people are not being directly taxed, or would you prefer that they also not pay sales tax too? Dumb idea.

  3. Sorry but we are going to CONTINUE to let visitors pay part of our taxes.

I know you are jealous as your state probably told you that your income tax would be used to fund education, and we are being told this now in Nevada, but most of us aren't buying it.

    Good luck!
