Reno newspaper appeals Gibbons e-mail case

Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009 | 6:35 p.m.

CARSON CITY – The Reno Gazette-Journal will appeal to the Nevada Supreme Court a court decision preventing the newspaper from obtaining 98 e-mails sent by Gov. Jim Gibbons.

The newspaper filed notice of its intent in district court in Carson City.

District Judge James Russell of Carson City had ordered six of Gibbons’ e-mails be released to the newspaper. He also ruled that personal messages are not public record and on that basis prevented 98 messages from being released.
