Fatal shooting

A man who Metro Police officers stopped early Saturday morning for jaywalking in downtown Las Vegas and then shot after he wouldn't put down a weapon has been identified as 35-year-old Edmond Delvalle of Las Vegas.

Barbara Morgan, spokeswoman for the Metro Police Department, on Monday also released the names of the officers involved in the shooting. They are officers James Burt, Karl Knowles and Andrew Parrish.

Burt and Parris have been with Metro Police since September 2005, police said. They are assigned to the patrol division of the Downtown Area Command.

Knowles has been with Metro Police since November 2001 and is assigned to the Downtown Area Command patrol division.

Uniformed patrol officers in a marked police car contacted the man who they said was jaywalking across Fremont Street east of Maryland Parkway at about 4:42 a.m. Saturday, police said. Officers said the man displayed a large pistol and wouldn't follow orders to drop the weapon.

The man then stood on a sidewalk in front of businesses in the 1100 block of Fremont Street while waving the weapon, police said.

An officer trained in crisis intervention spoke with the man, trying to get him to surrender, but police said the man pointed the gun at officers minutes later. Officers fired at the man, who was taken to University Medical Center, where he later died.

  1. I am so glad the officers were not hurt in this episode. Why this man would wave a gun around is beyond stupid. He was warned and he chose to endanger innocent people. I am so glad that we are protected from lunatics like this man. Thank you Metro! We appreciate the fine work you do for this town. :)

  2. starrynite7 -- As usual you assume and exaggerate way too much about this tragic incident.

Where do you get "he chose to endanger innocent people"?

And exactly how were you "protected"?

And how do you know he was a "lunatic"?

Usually first impressions are the most truthful. The original article on this couldn't even confirm he had any weapon.

  3. Hey KillerB, I'll answer your questions you pose to starrynight.

The dead guy "chose to endager innocent people" by waving a gun around. You do that and a trigger can be pulled releasing a bullet in a random direction. That random bullet could hit a passerby either on foot or in a vehicle, or it could pass through a wall of an apartment or home and kill an innocent child or adult sleeping in bed......just to name a few examples.

Starrynight is now "protected" because he/she does not have to worry about the now dead lunitic putting a gun to starrynight's head. This now dead guy will not shoot a human being ever!

The definition of lunitic is: a commonly used term for a person who is mentally ill, dangerous, foolish OR unpredictable. This now dead guy was clearly dangerous, unpredictable, and foolish. Thanks Metro! Nice job!!!!

Additionally, now that this guy is dead and not just wounded, we don't have to worry about some lame judge giving a criminal a light sentence, allowing him to continue his destructive behavor after a little time in the hole. Downtown is now a little bit safer thanks to the actions of those brave officers.

  4. goodhood -- Right.

    You be careful jaywalking now.

  5. Alot of dicussion should be had, Tragic is what comes to my mind. Edmond was a friend of Mine. His Daughter Loved Him, Family Friends Loved Him, He had this Smile about Him that was bright, and would stand up for people whom he loved with out Hesitation.

This Incident was Horrible, Metro officers Did What they felt Was Justified. But What Failed here was No One Intervened Sooner. What has Happened to alternative methods, Bean Bag Pellet Guns, tazers, Pepper Spray Bullets can be shot in a crowd of protestors.

As I turned On the News this am, Metro Involved Shooting Again, Showed up, 10 min of Negotiating suspect turns and walks to his front door, Shot in the Back. We talk about Safety, Are you saying that Everyone in a Police Uniform are Great People? They are Humans, who react, who have training, they are taught to defuse situation not Escalate them to this point, because If It is For Public Concerns we need classes to deal with Police and Police to deal with Us way better. The Officers Just want to get Home safe I got that, And we all Have Opinions about suspects.

Edmond was a Person, regardless of what his last Moments on Earth were, He was Ours. He was a Human Being, this was unfortunate. But Just so you know People who Love this Man are Hurting, its hard to swallow or understand for that Matter.

This Incident is Over, Suspect Down, Police safe.
No shooting is Ever a good Job. I understand we all want to feel safe and free, but compassion, understanding and less itchy Triggers will go along way in this world.

Edmond this is For you Now, We left flowers and Notes for you, I didnt get to tell you Goodbye..So REst Now My Friend, Your heart is Mended, We all Love you, Your Family came, They can now lay you to rest, Ask God to send us Understanding and extra Healing. Edgar is Missing you like crazy, Never seen Him so Quite ever. Our Hearts Send you Lots of Hugs of Goodbye. Peace My Friend

  6. dear officers and readers,
I knew this kind and sweet and sensitive man, my son is his nephew( who has his uncles sauciness) and his father is his brother(who could have torn me apart with his anguish). I wish those officers could have seen the devastation they caused because they were so "sure" they saw the gun, (conveniently fuzzy cameras?!) and MURDERED him. He was scared and would not have pointed that gun at you. lying for each other. What kind of jerk shoots someone 7 times with a shot gun or a rifle?! These testosterone-driven-lack-of-self-control-wannabee-cowboys! do you know what he was like? do you know what was happening to him? did you know his daughter is so absolutely devastated inside i wouldnt doubt it if she hated everyone in the world! no you head blind officers just assumed. well guess what, your judgment is tainted and wrong. You became a cop for the wrong reason, to be a bigshot tough guy. not one drop of remorse from you. i hope this mans face haunts you for the rest of your days. what if you had a troubled brother that has never harmed except himself that you loved so much that you just prayed to God that he would know you love him and his family loved and be all better, then someone like you comes along and destroyes him so completely hes DEAD DEAD DEAD! you wouldnt understand because you only relate to you. AND HE CAN NEVER COME BACK!!! dead is dead , you did that to him, we hurt so bad for him but your going to pay when you come knocking on heavens door and face your judge. until then we will weep when we remember what was lost and how generous he was. R.I.P. dear Edmund.
