The Meadows School defended its title in the Nevada Regional Science Bowl and won for the third time in four years.
Thirty-two teams from high schools in Arizona, California, Nevada and Utah competed in the 18th annual event held Saturday at UNLV.
The team will travel to Maryland for the U.S. Department of Energy's National Science Bowl April 30 through May 5.
Some schools fielded two teams. The Meadows' "blue" team took first place and the $5,000 check for its school. The school's "green" team finished fifth and received $500.
Meadows' Headmaster Henry Chanin congratulated the students for their efforts in the extracurricular science bowl team.
"We're very proud obviously and this is becoming a tradition at The Meadows School and it's certainly one we want to try and keep going," he said.
The competition tests the students' knowledge of astronomy, biology, chemistry, earth science, general science, mathematics and physics.
Shadow Ridge High School finished second and earned $2,500. Palo Verde, which was runner-up last year, placed third and received $1,500. Faith Lutheran High School's "blue" team finished fourth and won $1,000 for its school.
