Expanded coverage

Boulder City High's girls bowling team is back in the playoffs.

The Eagles finished the season in third place in the Northeast Division to earn a berth in the postseason. They will take on the No. 2 team from the Southeast Division.

"They really surprised me. They started the season down and almost out, but then they started winning and came on strong," Boulder City coach Rodney Ball said.

The quarterfinal round of the tournament is 2:30 p.m. on Friday at The Orleans.

"I think they have a good shot to go past the first round," Ball said. "It's just been an amazing year for them."

The girls closed out the season with a 9-0 win against Chaparral on Feb. 9. While the girls were celebrating their playoff berth, the boys saw their season end with a 9-0 loss to Chaparral.

The girls team includes juniors Katie Barbee, Sandy Harper, Dannielle Thompson, Ariel Anders and senior Cassidy Stevens.

Boys basketball looks to beat Virgin Valley

Seven seniors will play their final game at Boulder City High on Friday when the boys basketball team plays hosts Virgin Valley in its regular season finale.

"It's a great group of guys, and I want to see them go out the right way," Boulder City coach Bobby Reese said.

The Eagles' seven seniors are guards Alex Dillon, Joey Felsenfeld, Chris Leach, Jake Phillips, Joey Western and forwards Shane Levin and Jeremy Smith.

The Eagles took a break from league play and faced former 3A rival Pahrump Valley on Feb. 9. They picked up a 57-54 win to help rebound from a 71-37 loss to Faith Lutheran on Feb. 6.

"It's nice to win, but we still didn't play a full 32 minutes and let them back in at the end," Reese said.

Dillon scored 14 points and senior forward Shane Levin had 12 points and 12 rebounds as the Eagles held off a late rally to beat the Trojans.

Smith led Boulder City with 18 points against Faith Lutheran, but it was not enough.

"We didn't play like we wanted it. Faith Lutheran wanted it more. We needed to win, and we didn't play to win," Dillon said.

Girls look to end Virgin Valley's streak

Boulder City High's girls basketball team hopes to end Virgin Valley's quest for a perfect 3A Southern League record when the Bulldogs come to Boulder City on Friday.

"It's a big game and it's one we'd really like to win," Boulder City coach Brian Lemmel said.

The Eagles will be without junior guard Jessi Forrester the remainder of the season with a lower leg break in the tibia and fibia suffered Feb. 6 during warm-ups against Faith Lutheran.

The Eagles went on to beat Faith Lutheran 42-37.

Senior forward Caiti Forrester — Jessi Forrester's sister — scored 24 points, had 16 rebounds and five blocks in the win. Freshman center Karlee Koopman had six points and 12 rebounds, Paxton Fleming added eight points and reserve Teri Yesh had one point.

The Eagles trailed 18-17 in the third quarter when junior guard Paxton Fleming hit a 3-pointer to give them a lead they would not relinquish.

"That was as hard and as smart as I've seen them play. That was big for us," Lemmel said.
