Pedestrian killed while running across Sahara Avenue

Fatal crash

A pedestrian was killed Monday evening after he ran in front of a pickup truck in the eastern Las Vegas Valley, Metro Police said.

Authorities responded at 7:36 p.m. to the crash at East Sahara Avenue west of South 17th Street. Police said a 1998 GMC pickup truck traveling west on Sahara in the center lane struck the pedestrian when the man ran across Sahara in front of the truck from the south to the north curb.

The driver of the truck, identified as Cesar Reyes, 49, of Las Vegas, tried to avoid the collision, police said. The pedestrian died at the scene.

The victim was identified late Monday only as a 32-year-old Las Vegas man. His name will be released after family members are notified, investigators said.

Reyes wasn't injured. This is the sixth traffic-related fatality this year in Metro Police jurisdiction.
