LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Republicans’ audacity boggles the mind

Call it what you want — nerve, gall, chutzpah — but congressional Republicans have it in spades. Our country just went through a horrendous eight years with President George W. Bush, supported and enabled by congressional Republicans, who among other wrong choices took us to an unnecessary war in Iraq and ran the national debt up by more than $5 trillion.

Now that President Barack Obama is attempting to use a stimulus package to dig the country out of the economic crisis that Bush left for him, they’re all upset, claiming he’s spending too much and objecting to parts of the package.

Despite his meeting with these Republicans and asking for their support, every Republican in the House, including Nevada’s Dean Heller, voted against the stimulus bill, some of them high-fiving one another in the process. Nonetheless, the measure passed in the House and moved to the Senate, where it was met with little support from Republican senators, including our Sen. John Ensign.

The Republicans have sought to obstruct this stimulus bill, if for no other reason than it might work and Americans would be grateful to Obama and the Democrats for turning the country around.
